What People are saying

Poor customer service

stubbert on 22/07/2017 12:35

Rooms are basic but ok for the room rate.Breakfast is reasonable and buffet style, however I wish the staff would smile.Maybe I was unlucky but items were banged down on the table with no smile and bordering on rude and rarely for me I did not leave a tip.Shame.

Only had a coffee here having walked down from Cuevas de Nerja.

Having had lunch at Cafeteria Balcon de Maro and walked up to the Cuevas I thought of walking back to Nerja. Down the hill from the Cuevas is Hotel al Andalus. I stopped here and had a very good cafe cortado as well as a lot of advice, from different members of staff on my ability to walk on as far as Nerja, given age and ability. Anyway, armed with a litre of water supplied by them, I set off and after about 1.5 hours, including water and photo opertuniity stops as well as meeting a lovely couple from Sunderland England on a bench on outskirts of Nerja ,I arrived at the bus station and got transport from there to my accommodation. Incidentally the walk is ALL downhill or level. I'm Lovely folk at Hotel al Andalus and excellent coffee.

Little Spanish treasure

Very Spanish and local family hotel. Very clean and cared for. Simple cold breakfast buffet provided with bread, ham, cheese and fruit with cereal and jams. Rooms are clean and comfortable with fridges and toiletries in bathroom. Good 3 star hotel. Location is fine if you have car to get around or local buses will take you everywhere. This hotel is more Maro than Nerja in location. Only 5 mins walk to Nerja Caves.

A port in a storm!

Having booked online for the Playamaro hotel, which was closed when I arrived, I found by chance the Al-Andalus. It was the middle of the night when I arrived and I was welcomed and shown to my room by the night reception man.

Very simple and basic, but very clean and safe. Loads of hot water and fresh towels and toiletries. This is a lovely little hotel which has very nice staff who go out of their way to ensure everything is ok.

You get what you pay for - sometimes!

The Al-Andalus Hotel in Maro appeared like a dream online, but staying there was just okay - just. The motorway noise - all night long - detracted from the lovely locale. Make no mistake this hotel is in Maro, which is a 4 kilometre walk from the centre of Nerja. We walked into Nerja sometimes twice a day, because there was nothing much at all to do in Maro - and we love walking so we didn't mind so much, and we didn't have a car - but after a while it gets draining. The Maro beach is also a long, long walk - something like 2-3 kilometres from the hotel and quite hard to find. We found the beach in the end but weren't that impressed with it - grey gravel 'sand' and rather uninspiring - despite the reports that it is Spain's best beach.

The hotel is tired. The decor is very 90s and the staff - while they try to be friendly - don't appear genuine, which is a shame. We tried to speak Spanish to them all but were responded to in bad English. I understand they want to practice their English, but for god's sake - we were in Spain and Spanish is their language so please don't patronise us by replying in bad English. Let us try to speak your language. out of respect for your culture and lovely language.

We booked for four nights but only stayed three because we had to get back to Malaga for 10am to catch our flight at midday, and Nerja is a very, very long way from Malaga airport by bus.

The hotel is cheap - so I almost feel bad complaining and reviewing in this way, but I won't stay again - the motorway noise, the tired and bored personnel, the patronising attitude of the staff and the tired and lacklustre interior decor which reminded me of something out of the 1980s or 90s.

I just got the impression the hotel couldn't be bothered that much. Our room was okay - not immaculately clean but okay, very small but okay.

A very ordinary experience but for the tiny price per night I suppose you can't expect much better. I would have happily paid more though for a better hotel experience.

Nerja is okay, a typical Costa del Sol (massive) seaside town, a nice old town and the Balcon de Europa is very photogenic but I prefer Cadiz, Granada and Sevilla - real Spanish cities, not spoilt too much by northern European tourism.
