What People are saying

Good value

Fernando A on 21/09/2015 19:18

Nice place for short retreat or vacation. Located in a very quiet zone. Warm, welcoming personnel at the reception desk and restaurant. Good prices for the value. Nice swimming-pool area. It's great that there's an option for a light meal at noon and full-meal at night. Good apartment for a family stay - self-catering is a possibility. Needs to give a bit more attention to cleaning and maintenance of aging facilities and equipment. No Wi-Fi in rooms, which may be a plus if one is looking for some un-plugged in time.

Great value-for-money appartment with good hotel-like service and nice swimming pools

BorreSanders on 19/08/2015 22:24

After a round trip from Lisbon to the Algarve and back, we stayed over at "Aldeamento Turistico de Palmela" for 2 nights prior to returning to Lisbon. Although the outside appearance of the appartments demonstrates a need for maintenance, the overall experience was good bang-for-the-buck. The appartment's interior was convenient, and with facilities such as included breakfast in the central restaurant, soaps and towels, we felt it like we were in a hotel. I can relate to another reviewer's remark about the matresses being thin, although they were OK for us. We found that the breakfast was good, although if you stay longer, you may find the variety a bit limited. Together with our 6 year old son, and fellow holidaymakers (many appear to be of Portugese and French origin), we had a great time at the large swimming pool. There's also a large pool suitable for toddlers. The surrounding area is quiet except for some distant highway noise, and there appears to not be too much to do. There are some interesting places to visit in Setúbal and its surroundings, which are closeby assuming you're travelling by car. We for instance spent some time on a round-trip with the ferry to the Troia peninsula, cosy down-town Setúbal (near the east-end of Avenida Luisa Todi), and the nice Alegro mall (with some cinemas too, if you're interested). The personnel was friendly, supportive, and flexible, for instance with printing our boarding passes, and guarding our luggage in the office on the departure day on which we left late, and were allowed to continue to use the facilities such as the pool and showers, yet a late check-out proved not possible due to the room having been booked by a next occupant.

Rural Self-Catering

Pam M on 22/07/2015 15:58

A rural location about 55kms from Lisbon, 10kms from Setúbal. We have enjoyed a lovely 2 weeks there - lucky with the weather which was warm and sunny. All accommodation is self-catering but with restaurant on site. A basic continental breakfast is included in the price - the bread is delicious. Apartments are clean and comfortable - hob and microwave for cooking + fridge. Will need to bring your own kettle, iron and hairdryer if you use them. Swimming pool is great - a really good size. Other than the bar, that's it. Free wi-fi in the reception/public area. Reception staff speak English, but the feel is very Portuguese. A car really is an essential other than high taxi fees. A good base to explore the region with lots of really interesting places to see. If going to Lisbon, there's ample parking space at Palmela station and then get the train . Do buy the Viva Viagem card for 50 cents and top up (like an Oyster Card in London). This is much cheaper than buying individual tickets. FPalmela accomodation wasn't in our Sat Nav and not signed off the N10. Check your route on Google maps. We put Montado Hotel and Golf resort in which is just the previous turning off the N10 (you need to go through Pontes on the N10). The turning off the N10 has a small cafe on the corner and a sign for Vale de Albunheira by the recycling containers. After just over 1km You will find the sign (on your left) to FPalmela - that's where you turn right! Just follow the road until you get there - the tarmac ends so you shouldn't go past it! A good base to explore the region, plus supermarket shopping in Setúbal for all you need.

Very good

ElsaRosaLopes on 16/06/2014 15:43

Despite is not very well signalized it is a very good hotel. We were on Troia beach and decided to spend the ninght in Setubal or nearby, checked the web and called the hotel.

They have booked two T1 for us without credit card, We arrived late at night, the apartments were clean, good to psenad a night, breakfast was very good and the pool is splendid.

Ideal to those who want to sepnd a relaxing holidays in the midlle of nature but close to a big city and wonderful beaches.

it's an aparthotel ...but not a posh accommodation!

Henrique d on 17/08/2013 01:39

PROS
- low budget accommodation, 60€/night on a 4pax aparthotel in August it´s very good.
- Contact with rural and nature. You can easily hear crickets, birds, etc.
- You can cook if you want to. There´s all the equipments and tableware, also besides the table in the living room there´s a table and chairs in the balcony as well. It´s pleasant!

CONS
- Swimming pool is used by non-guest. I understand the business side of this, but to the guests is not so welcome measure. First because the mess caused and second the belongs of the guests are in risk.
- The furniture on overall is not posh, but I would say sufficient for a few days holidays. But the beds should be updated, for majority of the people maybe they are "ok", but the mattresses were too thin. Too many nights in a row can affect your body.
- In the swimming pool and overall complex the staff are reduced. Around the swimming pool during my all stay I didn´t saw a single staff member, so this are of the hotel is unattended.

TO BE IMPROVED
- The watering system should be improve, because while in use, remain dry when walk on the the pathways between the apartments and car park can be a hard challenge.
- Breakfast is too simple, just bread, 2 types of jam, cheese, ham, orange juice, milk, coffe, cereals and croissants. Could be ok but some people are used to a richer breakfast.
- Staff should learn how to smile and know how to make the guests welcome.

OTHERS FACTS
- The pack I booked over internet included a welcome drink, was a pack called "romantic", so I found rose petals over the bed and champagne. Was nice!
- I read some reviews here on Tripadvisor about a smell! Well I didn´t smelled anything during my stay while in the complex, but on my journeys around the area I felt the smell. I believe the smell are linked to the rural fields around the area, it´s not pleasant but something that the hotel can´t control.
- A car is required to stay in this aparthotel complex. Because the nearest city (Setúbal) are 10kms away nad the complex itself are located at least 2 kms from the main road (N10). It´s not difficult to find the aparthotel, on N10 road just turn when you find the sign (Vale da Abunheira), then 1 km ahead, turn right on second road( there´s a sigh with the hotel logo = F Palmeira), follow that road one more km and the complex will be on your right side. Anyway, the direction signs to the hotel should be since the main road.

IN THE AREA:
Well Setúbal is known for the fish and seafood in general. The most famous dish is fried cuttlefish (Choco frito). Besides the gastronomy, the beaches and nature are the "must see" of the area. You can catch the boat or ferry to Troia, also the beachs on Arrábida mountain range (Serra da Arrábida) are nice, such as Portinho, Galapos, etc. Also the view from the Arrábida mountain range are fantastic, you need a car and about 1 hour but definitely worth the time spent.

CONCLUSION
I had a nice stay, not fantastic, but for the price paid were ok. Calm days with my family and far from big mess and a low price comparing to similiar complexes in Algarve or other famous summer destinations in Portugal it´s a very cost-effective option.

WILL I RETURN?
probably yes, for some quite days far from big cities , not for a long stay and for a low budget.
