Pool closed.....disappointed !!

Kirsty R on 26/10/2017 15:33

All in all the apartment was fine, dated, but a typical Spanish apartment. The location of the apartment was great as it was literally a 5min walk to the beach, shops and restaurants!!
The pool being closed was a major disappointment!! Apparently it’s only open from June to September (according to poster in reception area) had the pool been opened this would have been excellent as it’s enclosed and a wee sun trap!! We found a pool that we could use at the mini golf (again a 5min walk from apt) so we used that to make up for no pool at apartment!!
Apartment was fine for a base to sleep and shower, wouldn’t go again though for the simple fact it’s residential and not for holiday makers!!

Abhorrent Alboran- don't bother!

I was really disappointed with the accommodation. I was on a lads holiday, and I don't really expect or want too much, but I felt this accommodation was sub standard. There were 3-4 people in each room, but only 1 key issued (which you have to walk 10 minutes away to collect). You needed a key to get into the foyer, and a key to be able to get out to the pool. If all 4 of you weren't together at all times of day, this causes a number of issues. Each day required expert military style planning just to ensure you weren't locked in or out. However, the biggest problem was that the air conditioning had broken. It was boiling hot in Salou and trying to sleep in such temperatures was impossible. We had the French doors onto the balcony open all night, and even when it seemed to cool outside, the room remained hot and stuffy (I can now sympathise how the ginger bread man felt before being let out of the oven). Some of my friends slept on the balcony to try and improve the situation as it really was that bad. This really did spoil the holiday, as we had very little sleep between us. As we we had a strict schedule of partying hard, with a condensed sleep program, we needed those quality hours sleep which can't be achieved in a room that is hotter than molten lava. Some of the other negative, but less important issues, were the door knob came off in your hand every time you went to open the bedroom door, one of the plastic chairs on the balcony was broken and the wooden blind in the room fell apart if you even breathed next to it. This apartment was mainly residential (not a hotel as advertised) and we we're looked upon by its inhabitants like parasites. I accept we we are British lads on holiday, but we're certainly not that rowdy and are generally well behaved and respectful. However, the people at this residence (and in Salou in general) looked at us as if we were the scum of the earth. Overall, I had a great few days because of the people I was away with, but I wouldn't go back and certainly not to this accommodation.

Just got back from the Alboran hotel, Oct 2015, firstly flying into barcelona BCN airport T1 - we'd booked BUSPLANA for our transfer, €19 return, trouble was, coming out of airport there were no signs, no exc desk, it was 8.30pm, relying on the local airport staff dotted about, was told 4 different directions!! Trailed up n down for half hour, finally a bus driver told us get on green bus to Terminal 2, on arrival we were sent downstairs in T2 to bus depot, stands 7-11 are Busplana stands, finally on transfer we happily set off, 2 hours later we were dropped at plaza Europe hotel area outside Lazy wave bar, we had read the reviews on aquiring the key!!!! Luckily the staff and guests were lovely, sending us to an office around corner, local time 10.30pm Office closed!!! Took down a number from door of office, lazy waves staff (thanku guys you were fab) called it .... wrong office! They Rang number from booking sheet finally got through, pick up keys a taxi ride away, at office had to pay late check in fee €25 euros and €7 euros Spanish tax, also €150 deposit on room, but ours was wavered due to early departure out of salou. Finding the Alboran apart was not too bad, and the apartments were lovely glittery reception through locked front doors, unmanned apartments! 3 lifts worked great, room clean tidy well equipped, microwave, TV, 2 single beds, pull out double sofa bed, balcony with table and 4 chairs if needed, drying rack, kitchenette separate 2 cooking rings, piping hot water due to separate boiler in apartments, shower over bath always hot. Pool covered over end of season! but going out of front doors turn left 150 metres is the beach! Beautiful clean beach, beds priced at €3 to €5 depending on how busy it was, Supermarket right opposit Alboran. Salou centre and front Is lovely, shoppers delight! shops everywhere! Bars and restaurants scattered about, beach front bars restaurants lovely tried quite a few. Ok on return ....! Key had to be taken back to office but they didn't open until 10am we were leaving at 8am, but this was fine as keys could be deposited in box outside door. Busplana ran every hour 8.05 ..9.05 etc from right outside Lazy wave bar entrance, picked up on time back to barcelona T2 dropped outside doors, inside then downstairs jump on green bus to T1 to check in, if I'd known all this id've found it Easy, hence my review! Hope this helps others to stay at Alboran hotel the cheaper way. We enjoyed our stay and would go back now we know the way.

Firstly the key issue, it is a bit of a pain but I hope this helps.... get the large supermarket Michelangelo on your right at the x roads go up the main road you will pass a church on your left with the Davinchi hotel on the right keep going up that road you will pass a smaller supermarket on your left called St Tropez, keep going (it is about 600 mtrs from the hotel to the key location) then you will pass another Michelangelo supermarket on the right side of the road, go past a bar/restaurant on your left then it is the next left the street is the Berlin You will see a large building auris go through the door marked reception. ahhhh.arrived
We had to pay 150 euro deposit 7 euro city tax and 25 euro late check in charge, we had to be out of the room at 10 am and was worried about carting our luggage around all day but we were told when we collected our deposit we could leave our cases there.
The hotel is dated but ....you get what you pay for it was clean fully equipped but dated, the sheets towels were changed on the Thursday.
Please take the details with you unless you are fluent in Spanish.
Hope these helps

Everything you could need on a sun holiday

Like the previous reviewer when I started reading reviews I was horrified and nearly going to cancel. Fortunetly I didn't as the apartment was spotless, it had everything thing we could have possibly needed. Fresh towels, pots, pans, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery. There is a supermarket across the road with lovely fresh bread and anything you need if you want to eat in.

There was no air conditioning but we just slept with the door open and it was quit comfortable. I felt very safe as there was a key to get into the building and a separate one for your room.

It was very relaxing around the pool as it was not overrun with tourists as most of the appartments are residential. I read in previos reviews that the pool was dirty. Completely untrue I seen it being cleaned every day. As there are beautiful trees and plants around it leaves may blow in during the day.

All in all a pleasant stay at the Alboran but I would not recommend Salou at the end of August as it seems like all the Spanish were on holidays and you literally cannot find a space on the beach. We decided to go one day very early, we found a perfect spot but within an hour we were surrounded by Spanish people with their own deck chairs and umbrellas and with no consideration of our space.
