What People are saying

Excellent ryokan

catheadtc on 26/01/2018 05:17

My family are like to stay in ryokans with history. So when I looked the Izu peninsula ryokans and found Arai ryokan which is the national culture reserved place, I reserved it immediately. We stayed in the ryokan for 1 night and felt kind of disappoint that I didn't make reservation for more nights☺️. Shuzenji is a peaceful town with lots historic spots to visit. And Arai ryokan itself is an art work. The over 100 years buildings are in good maintenance. The garden are so beautiful and the onsen are excellent. And the staffs speak Englisg fluently. The ryokan has an art gallery which I'll highly recommend. Since the owner studied art in Tokyo, he had lots collections of painting. I'll recommend Arai ryokan to my friends and we shall visit here again in the future.

Just lovely!!

I had a wonderful experience as a solo traveler in this lovely ryokan!
The setting is just beautiful with lush trees, flowing water and koi.
At first I didn't like the fact that my room was upstairs over the lobby but it turned out to be wonderful because the wifi from downstairs reached up to my space! I had a lovely view too.
The service from the moment I checked in through 2 meals and check out was excellent. The maid that served my meals spoke English and was able to explain the food well. The food itself was fantastic!
In addition I had the most wonderful massage right in my room after dinner! I get a lot of massages at home and this one was one of the best ever.

The hot river in this town is something that I cannot get out of my head. I show the picture of it to everyone when I tell them about my trip. I really loved the fact that it was not full of other American travelers. It felt really special to be there.

Nice old historic ryokan with real Japanese hospitality

casualobserv on 26/08/2017 01:07

Stayed with family booking at the last minute. It was quite expensive, but we really loved the historic buildings and pretty hot springs including two private ones that could be booked at reception. The gardens were beautiful with many seasonal flowers and a large pond full of carp. The building rattles a little as it is over 80 years old but it adds to the quaint atmosphere and brings you back in time to another era in a lovely way. The service from start to finish was impeccable and the food for dinner and breakfast that was served in our room was exquisite. A lovely experience for those that want to step back in time and experience some true Japanese hospitality.

Arai Ryokan review

wong j on 14/07/2017 14:44

I have stayed in Arai Ryokan on a family trip and it wasn't worth it. Very small hit spring which didn't look like how it did on picture. Food was poor and rooms were small and expensive. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone and will never come again. Please consider my review as I'm mad that I got scammed.

I have stayed at Arai Ryokan 5 times

Arai Ryokan never disappoints. The rooms are beautiful and over look the river. It's absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. The food and service are excellent. The hot baths are historic. Make sure you ask for a room facing the river not the courtyard. The river facing room come with a seating area that overlooks the river. The room are large enough for 4 to 5 people.
