I visited ASTORIA on 24-26th Jan,18 with family. I booked through booking.com. Location is very good, they have accepted international credit cards. Room was comparatively large, Clean washroom. Complimentary breakfast is not so satisfactory. Overall Services are not so good, room/food service boys are very lazy, you can't get service after 10pm. You can get on hotel Spa. "Voj Company" restaurant, Sreeleather Shoe store, BAR, PUB are very closed of the hotel.
Very good location, clean and comfortable

I chose this hotel for its location near the Indian Museum. Itâs down a laneway just off busy Sudder Street and was very quiet, except for a mosque call at 5:15am which lasted only 5 minutes. If you turn left from the hotel, then right for 100m, you will see the More Supermarket; or turn left and left again for 50m for the Kathleen Bakery.
My room ( no.307) was a bit small but very well appointed, with a kettle, bar fridge and safe (all rarities in India), very good free wifi ( with a router just outside my room), a comfortable bed, good reading light and convenient charging point. The AC and ceiling fan worked well but were hardly needed in the cool weather. Some of the wallpaper was peeling off, but the room was comfortable and had a view of a large tree which housed a lot of birds, and it was a pleasant surprise to hesr birdsong in the middle of Calcutta. The flat screen TV didnât have any English language channels.
The bathroom fittings and tiles were new and some minimal toiletries were provided. The water did get hot, but not in time for a shower at 6am on my last day.
The staff were welcoming and helpful, spoke English well and attended to queries/problems quickly. I was surprised to see the female housekeepers, the first I have ever seen in India. There is a next-day laundry service, and a free English language newspaper ( usually The Times if India, but they will provide The Telegraph if asked).
There is a restaurant with a very basic Western or Indian breakfast (very uncomfortable chairs!) and a small lobby with seats.
There is a taxi stand almost right outside on Sudder Street, the fare to the airport is Rs350 ( or Rs400 from 6pm to 6am).
The securiy is very good, with a guard on duty, an electronic room key and the safe.
I found this hotel very comfortable and convenient, but travellers who want everything spic and span had better stay somewhere else and pay much more. The biggest drawback for me was no BBC or CNN on the TV, but I used the wifi to listen to the BBC on my phone.
3rd time not so good

Though i know what I am getting and what is the price still last 2 times i did enjoy what it offered but this time its so so. i think too many people from Bangladesh are actually booking this place resulting less focus on the actual experience from the hotel management.
Only location nothing else!!

The hotel was OK, we had to ask for our bedding to be replaced which was not the best but apart from this the hotel was reasonable. Breakfast was included and this was basic but what do you expect for free? The laundry service was free as well which was very good.
