The place is located very near to the Lake Wanaka and the town center. Rooms are slightly small. The washrooms are coming for all and hence not all that clean. No wifi at night. Check-in check-out is hassle free. Breakfast is not included. Kitchen is not really clean.

Good hostel, we stayed in a 4 bed dorm lots of room for bags etc and a storage box under bed which you could easily put a padlock on to keep all your stuff safe. Also had an en-suite in the room. Kitchen good size however not too much seating area. Location very good right next to a new world supermarket. Would stay again.
Also reception staff very helpful and sorted us with transfer to Roy's peak.

The Base Wanaka is a hostel accomodation with decent sized rooms. The rooms are clean and bathrooms adequate. The common kitchen and facilities are also clean and very usable. The building also houses the Mint Bar which provides very good value for money food and drinks. Located very close to the super market, dining options and Lake Wanaka

The staff was friendly but I had the feeling that they don't really know what they are doing.
We only had trouble beginning with the laundry. No machine was working (out of eight machines).
The atmosphere was really impersonal and we didn't feel comfortable but for one night it was alright.

I stayed here for 1 night in January and it was dreadful. I was in room 110 which is directly above the courtyard bar and very noisy. They don't clear the outside area like other hostels. The noise was horrific and you had no chance of sleeping. I even tried sleeping in reception!! Not a chance. I requested a refund in the morning at reception and they said I had to email the manager. Still no reply 36 hours later. Utter shambles. Don't stay here go somewhere else. Not everybody wants to party all night every night. They should have a quiet area somewhere like other hostels.
