What People are saying

Lovely, would stay again

Edwina J on 03/02/2018 16:42

Excellent location, handsome old house turned into a hotel. Stayed with a pilgrimage group. Lovely big comfy rooms, excellent food. Owner told us all about history of the property and the headaches bringing it back into use. We felt very welcome and were sorry to leave.

Beautiful hotel, poorly managed and maintained

DanNYNY on 01/02/2018 18:19

It is yet another example of a beautiful hotel that (typical of other Atlas hotels) falls into decay and not properly maintained.
The room itself is beautiful if you don't pay attention to the details: carpet that wasn't properly vacuum cleaned, creases on the bedsheets, poor finishing in the bathroom. But the main problem is that we didn't have hot water. We called the hotel staff who apologised and told us that only in the following morning there would be a technician to fix the problem. It was a long day and I had to shower in cold water.
Upon check out, I asked to complain with the manager. He was absent but I was promised that he would call me within two days. After four days, quite upset, I called the hotel again and asked to speak with the manager. I was promised once again that he would call me. That was in September 2017 - I'm still waiting.

The best in Haifa

EMBE762 on 25/01/2018 07:11

After trying many hotels here in Haifa, now finally a really good one. Well managed great staff and nice style of rooms etc. best in town
Also nice breakfast PLUS rooms with nice views in quiet location

Very acceptable but just a tad lacking in customer service

MonsieurPeregrine on 22/01/2018 12:56

Amazing view of Haifa, no doubt about that. Facilities were comfortable as well and certainly a good deal for the price point. However, customer service felt a bit lacking, almost as if they wee not really trying but just going through the motions. If you're looking for a comfortable and relatively affordable place, then look no further. However, if service and feeling welcome is significantly important to you, as it is to me, then this is an average hotel.

Perfect hotel with one negative…

DeanMurphy2020 on 21/01/2018 17:18

With about 60 rooms, Haifa Bay is a boutique hotel in a converted 1912 building, the year ‘Titanic’ sank and Girl Scouts of America was formed. Room 109 is well-appointed and a corner unit, meaning more natural light. The breakfast buffet is spectacular, and Happy Hour at this hotel takes on new meaning. There is free beer/wine and snacks that actually serve as a light evening meal.

Although the hotel and rooms are fabulous, I had one frustrating experience. Travelling for three weeks and taking only limited light-weight clothing in one carry-on luggage, I use hotel sinks to wash garments. Israeli hotels—including Haifa Bay—charge outrageous amounts for laundry. Ten shekels (about $3.25) to clean a handkerchief or ankle-length socks; 14 shekels for cotton boxers. Considering I can purchase those garments in the States for less than the price of hotel laundry service, I prefer to stretch my travel budget by washing clothes and drying them by wringing out in a towel and then using the hair dryer. After I filled the sink with soapy water and washed each garment, I drained the water and refilled the sink to rinse. Each time I repeated this process, water flooded the floor. Wearing Crocs, I wasn’t aware of the flood until finishing the laundry. I used all the towels to dry the floor, and refilled the sink.

I discovered that a drain pipe behind the wall apparently was not connected, thus the flood. I phoned registration and the clerk itemized five possibilities of how I caused the leak. (Over-filling the sink, splashing, etc.) I went to the lobby to fully explain, thinking that using the phone and possible language barrier caused the misunderstanding. Another litany of how I caused the problem caused me to request that someone accompany me to the room. I demonstrated what is causing the problem, water clearly coming out of the wall. Perhaps Moses struck his staff against the tile wall?

In all fairness, the clerk did offer to relocate me to another room, but told me the problem would be repaired the next day. Since I had damp garments hanging about the room and had unpacked the one piece of luggage at 9:00pm, I declined the room change. After three nights, the non-functioning drain was not repaired. I do understand that many hotel staff member have travelers who don’t know that the air conditioning can’t be turned on unless the key card activates room electricity, or how to adjust a/c & shower water temperature. Consider that, however, I’ve travelled to 35 countries and have published more than 1,300 TripAdvisor reviews, many of them of hotels. The only negative I experienced at Haifa Bay Club is hotel staff members providing poor customer relations. Because the positives far outweigh the one negative aspect, I assiged a relatively high rating, which should have been the maximum allowed. It is unkind to let one negative sway me to assign a "poor" rating.
