We had 2 meals in the Bell Hotel, over 2 consecutive nights, and although the first meal, their Sharing Platter, was quite tasty and well presented, the service was a little slow and staff that evening were somewhat unfriendly.

The following evening, we returned for the Live Entertainment, which they were unable to give details on as an agency books the entertainment, so the staff have no idea who, or what, is performing until they actually turn up 😳😳.

We decided to have the Indian Banquet meal, which sounded good, and the staff that evening were far friendlier, the owner/manager was serving food, and our meal was delivered quite fast, but, alas, it was far from hot. The owner/manager very quickly returned the cold items to the kitchen and dispensed the bar person to offer us a drink on the house, which was very considerate of him, for the inconvenience. The food was piping hot on the second serving, but we had already found out that the Chef obviously didn’t have the required skills to produce an authentic tasting curry, the sauces were rather bland and his version of onion bhaji was rather heavy on the pastry used and little cloying to the palate.

All in all, we probably wouldn’t opt to eat there
again...

2 Nights in Tewkesbury

Islandwong on 20/12/2017 19:34

Was in Tewkesbury for a couple functions one of which was to be at the Tewkesbury Abbey. The Bell is across the road from the Abbey's main entrance so this was very convenient. There is parking available just off the main road and not from the river front like most of the other hotels. The room is warm and the comfortable. The lighting is not the best so reading might be a challenge. The restaurant and pub offerings are pretty decent and very tasty. Service was hit and miss. One day service was impeccable and the next noticeably different. The wifi took a little getting used to but its free.

This hotel would benefit from a makeover it is tired and dirty looking, on the day we were there , there was an awfull smell of sewers so bad we had to move.
The sullen manager eventually came and sprayed the area.
The place was cold as the staff wanted to keep doors open while they smocked outside the kitchen!
It's a shame as the waitress in the restaurant was excellent and the food in general was good.
I feel the major thing that lets this establishment down in the very poor female manager, who needs clear training in customer service.
We spent over £300.00 and it was an effort for her to shut a door when we complained of the cold.
At one stage she made out someone else was the manager!!!
There are plenty of better restaurants in Tewkesbury.

Nice stay in an interesting location

We had an overnight stay at the Bell and had an enjoyable time. It's a 17th Century building and is right opposite Tewkesbury Abbey. Plenty of parking. The staff were very pleasant and we had a good evening meal and breakfast. The bar and dining room are attractive with nice selection of beers. The room was clean, well set up and the bed was comfortable. The view was of an inner courtyard but it was quiet. Some small things could be polished up a bit e.g. clothes hook needed in the bathroom and window pelmet sagging. However, we had a good stay there and would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Tewkesbury.

a good stay

so it would not win four in a bed but it would come a close second, the food was very good, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable;the bathroom could do with a bit of updateing but overall was ok.situated opposite the abbey the view was good as well.
