Really impressed with the location of Hotel Orion Varkert, our room was a reasonable size, with a bath/ shower which was great to have the choice. Beds were also really comfortable!
Our breakfast was not included in our stay, so we had it 4/7 mornings.
We both felt it was quite pricey for what was available (about â¬8 each per day)
The selection was small and quite difficult to eat from as a vegan as the choices were: ham/cheese/eggs/yogurt/cereal/ bread.
The hotel owner was lovely and helpful, calling us a taxi if we needed one, letting us borrow extra towels for our visit to Rudas Baths. - My only criticism is he seems to be taking on too much for 1 person to manage E.G. cooking peopleâs breakfast orders whilst trying to sort something out over the phone, at the same time someone would be walking into the hotel to the reception desk!
All in all a positive experience.

Room is comfortable and new, service is great. Very well located too, you can very easily walk to the main tourist areas. Breakfast very basic but does its job, costs 8 euros. No room service (small hotel). Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised with how great the location was, how kind hearted the staff were and how nice the rooms were. Breakfast was really nice-the extras of freshly cooked eggs was a treat! Rooms are simple but spotless and nice and toasty warm when coming back from exploring. All attractions within walking distance, hop on hop off bus stop is at the top of the street. We had a great nights sleep each night and wasn't woken in the morning even though some of the rooms are being re-furbed. We cannot thank the staff for going out of their way to make us comfortable and going above in beyond, especially Szekeres Lajos and Baumann Karoly! Wonderful job guys we will be back!

The perfect hotel for a weekend in budapest! The room was nice and clean with a good breakfast. Located in a quiet street at the buda side. Its easy to take the tram to the city center.. Recommended!!

If you like a hotel in quiet neighborhood, close to good public transporation, and within walking distance of Budapest's main attractions, then this hotel is for you. Hotel Orion Varkert is located directly beneath the palace complex on the Buda side of the river. It's a less than 5 minute walk to the Varkert Bazar and about 5 minutes to the Elizabeth bridge and the base of Gellert Hill. The closest public transport is also less than a 5 minute walk. As the crow flies, the hotel is directly across the Danube from the where many of the better-known river cruise lines dock. If you like to be situated near restaurants, nightclubs, shopping, and so on, you will likely want to forgo the Buda side of the river completely.
The hotel itself is a solid 3 stars. The room décor is a little dated, but clean and comfortable. The room size was a little larger than many local European hotels, but if I were traveling with kids, I'd still get a second room. The shower was a bath shower, so there was enough room to move around. The breakfast is smaller than many in Europe, however the attendant will make scrambled or fried eggs. The rooms seemed quiet, but it was difficult to tell because the hotel was also not full. Late in our stay, we discovered that there is a sauna in the hotel. Our room had a small refrigerator that hosted a mini-bar, but since it was of the no tech sort, we were able to store a small amount of our own items in the refrigerator.
The people running the hotel are extremely kind, patient, and helpful. They made a couple of calls for me for reservations, helped me find the correct public transportation, and made sure that when I needed a taxi, it was one of the honest ones.
Point here- Budapest has excellent public transportation. If you can, map out how to get to the hotel that way. The independent taxi drivers that lay in wait outside of the train station and other attractions charge at least three times the "regulated" rate. Regulated in quotes, because no one is regulating these drivers. If you must use a taxi, use one that has a company logo on the door (e.g. City Taxi). At this time, there is no Uber or Lyft. I might even call or email ahead with the hotel, and I bet they would gladly arrange transport for you.
Our 3 day stay at the hotel was perfect for our needs and an excellent value. Thumbs up!
