Wet lunchtime welcome!

We called in for lunch after a very wet yomp on Dartmoor. The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming and living our dripping waterproofs in the foyer we were able to dry off by a roaring fire. Great food too!
Comfortable week

Stayed in a single room for a week whilst on a training course nearby.
Went for a single room as it was a bargain price. Room was basic but fine, cleaned every day and had tea/coffee making facilities. Was lovely & warm too, given how cold it was outside.
Shower in bathroom was amazing. Best hotel shower Iâve ever used.
Breakfast was very good, generous portions and well cooked. Good coffee machine too.
Beer well kept, nice fire in main bar and service from bar staff was very good. Pleasant and friendly every time.
Food unpretentious, tasty and good value. The burger and the fish & chips were excellent & the beef & ale pie was nice & filling.
Having read previous reviews Iâd say that the new owners seem to have taken the place in a new and good direction & Iâd recommend it as a stopover on your way down to Cornwall, or to visit the local area for a few days or just for a bite to eat & a drink if youâre nearby.
New Ownership

This hotel is under new ownership as of Dec. 7, 2017. This was our first time staying here. The room was clean and comfortable if not a little boring. The rest of the inn is large and inviting. We went to the bar several times and were served quickly and were able to sit by the fire. The full English breakfast every morning was terrific. Could never even finish it. The staff were very nice to us and helped us whenever we needed it. All in all it was a positive experience. We would stay here again.
Cold and depressing

Booked for a treat as an anniversary gift to ourselves. Arrived at 6.30 and were in the meldon suite. It was empty - no one else staying there. Freezing cold as heating was not working. Staff did their best to get it working and came in with a little heater. I have a lung condition so the heater was blowing out dust and aggravated my breathing. We were offered a free drink and an alternative room in the pub. It was a small room with a small tv and bathroom/toilet were a fair way away. Not what weâd paid for so we decided to go to travel lodge instead. Much cosier. Staff more friendly and heated room with a fan in case we got too hot! The man was very apologetic and offered us a free meal the following night. The lady (presume owner) gave us a refund but no apology! Ended up travelling over to travel lodge at 10pm after nigh in a whole day travelling from lincoln to exmouth to okehampton ! Not what we needed as at over £100 cheaper I would recommend travel lodge any day! These things happen and they hid all out a plumber but as the room was available to ya at 3pm - it might have been good if the staff had checked it beforehand- we didnât get a free ð¸ we paid for it!
Truly disappointing

Don't waste your money here, the food could not be any worse!
I have given it one star because there is no option to score it less.
The pub is unwelcoming and the restaurant an afterthought. We could have had better food at a roadside burger van, and at least they are not pretending to be something that they are not.
