What People are saying

Aesthetically amazing, but cold service and atmosphere

thalia g on 18/01/2018 05:50

My father and I stayed here for three nights in January. I would recommend doing a tour of the hotel but not staying here.

Pros: This place is like a museum--I've never seen anything like it in India. It should be a movie set! Every room in the hotel is different, and the design is quite something--a mixture of original 1920s Art Deco furniture and Rajasthani haveli aesthetic. When we were there, one of the artisans who has a workshop in the haveli showed us around some of the other rooms in the hotel, including a humongous room that used to be a dining hall (you can still see the windows from where the ladies would look upon the festivities), and some other back rooms. His name is Amir ustad and he was very friendly and even showed us his workshop. Shankar, who served us breakfast, was also very nice.

Cons: Though we stayed here three nights we never met the managers of the hotel. It seemed as if the hotel was mostly staffed by the grumpy hotel staff who barely greeted us when we went in and out of the hotel. This place has a very cold atmosphere, and since there was only another couple staying in the hotel, it felt very empty. The family that owns the hotel lives on the roof and doesn't seem to interact with the guests (they are descendants of the rich Jain merchants who originally built the haveli and the havelis around it).

The hotel management doesn't seem to have made any effort in terms of amenities and services. Even though the hotel is already very expensive they charged us 100 RS per water bottle (water bottles in India are usually 15-20 RS), 500 for a breakfast of toast and cereal and some occasional fruit (they don't serve eggs or meat because the family is Jain). They don't seem to clean the rooms during the day, and the bathroom contained two small packets of shampoo, that's all. It was almost insulting to see how little effort they had put into these services, after paying so much. There was no greeting by the hotel (which is so common in India) with chai or coffee, no hospitality.

Overall, I had the impression that whoever owns the hotel doesn't really care that much about the guest experience. This could be because most of the family that owns it lives abroad, I'm not sure...

But for its Location, it would be five star

We booked it based on its Photos. later on realized non was of the exterior. The websites and booking sites, including Bookings.com , from witch we booked it, give a real description of its location. The location, in the old city is really terrible. You can not reach it on your own, unless you have been to those dirty, smelly narrow streets full of filth.
Inside of the Haveli is a treat to the eyes and good photo op. The dinning hall is stunningly beautiful, and so are the common rooms, staircase etc.
Bathrooms are a bit of a problem, but clean, and decorated.
Most important, it is totally vegetarian food, no eggs. Better take lunch and dinner outside.

Beautiful heritage hotel

A wonderful experience for our final day of touring in Rajasthan. We could not believe our eyes when we entered our room - so large, with a beautiful four poster bed, antique furniture and paintings. Set around a large courtyard makes the hotel a peaceful oasis in the hectic city. As a large group was staying, we were given a private table for dinner overlooking the courtyard listening to a man playing the flute. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Well-managed and full of charm

Dina B on 02/12/2017 17:22

This is what a heritage hotel should be, extremely well managed, comfortably and well-cared for. After so many heritage hotels that clearly suffer from massive disinterest and neglect from their owners, it was a pleasure to stay at one where the manager is absolutely on top of things and where the public spaces as well as the rooms exude warmth and charm. The service was excellent and the food delicious. For those who wish to be in the heart of Bikaner's old town, right in the midst of all the tiny winding streets, this gorgeous haveli is the place to be.

NOT WORTHY

Shivananda L on 24/11/2017 19:13

We reserved two family rooms for a day in Bhanwar Niwas. Reaching this place is very difficult as we have to hire a auto( as 4 wheelers doesn’t enter small, narrow & crowdy streets ) from city to this place even after having our own 4 wheeler as it’s located somewhere in a old dirty area. Not even a single sign board was placed to locate this place.
Check in was smooth , rooms were big in size but lacked facilities like normal drinking water( not bottled ) even after requesting to provide it. Wi-fi wasn’t working due to some problem. Hot water wasn’t available till 7 Am .
Complimentary Break fast and Dinner didn’t have much options.
