Heritage Property | Unmaintained | Bad location

The hotel is one of the oldest heritage properties in Jaipur. It's a nice Palace, but very badly maintained. The area leading up to the property itself is a big turn off as it is quite dirty.
The ambiance in the lobby area is quite fascinating with relics from the pre-independence era of Maharajas. There is not much to be said about the rooms as they are ordinary with basic settings.
However, the service staff at the property are friendly and helpful. The service is reasonable, but the entire experience was way below the standard that we had expected. But foreign travellers on a budget will find this place fascinating.
Beautiful: museum in itself

Very surprising this hotel is not higher on any of the lists. Perhaps because it's not the most expensive. It is however one of the most beautiful hotels we have seen in India.
Very old and authentic palace. Creaky bed and old switches only add to the fantastic atmosphere. Room was decorated with murals, guns, spears, large bed/sofa for reading and so on. Even got airco.
Real masterpiece is the lobby inside however. Absolutely amazing. Everything is at least 100 years old and nothing has been modernized (this would be crime). On appointment you can visit upstairs where the owners still live. We had no time for this sadly.
Restaurant is also very good; same atmosphere and vegetable thali was awesome. Hotel manager is a correct and funny guy.
Fantastic historical building - typically unmaintained but worth a visit

Stayed two nights as part of a G Adventures tour. Stayed in the room located in the gardens which had been constructed to match the rest of the building with highly decorated wall panels and ceiling.
The building has a great history and is really fascinating. Service is typically Indian, (willing, helpful but slow and inefficient) but like everywhere we visited in the country, maintenance and upkeep is not important so please don't expect perfection.
Everything was functional, showers not great (none were until we stayed 5 star at the airport on the way home), not the cleanest towels and sheets but washed, restaurant slow but food was good.
We walked into the centre of Jaipur past the markets and spice sellers so please be prepared for your senses to go into overload - traffic noise, chaos, colours and the smells!
Its an old style traditional hotel in Jaipur, have an open mind and embrace the culture, after all thats we visit for!
Nice property but could use refreshing.

Stayed here for 2 nights during our India/Nepal tour. Was better than our stay in Delhi but can't help but think it is being neglected somewhat. The rooms were nice enough and clean but a seemed a little dated. The pool was murky and not cleaned as it should have been. The historic value of the property is impressive, and the artifacts displayed in the restaurant and around the property are important. The restaurant was a bit deceptive but is the only one nearby. Overall a bit better than average stay.
A palace indeed

We stayed here for four nights in total. It is the palace of the Bissau royal family, who keep a few rooms here, like a Duke in U.K. I think. The rooms are all different, ours was off the main reception area and had all sorts of ancient weapons and a tiger head over the fireplace. The ambience is dusty grandeur, the communal areas are busy and friendly. We ate at the hotel and the food was excellent with plenty of choice. The staff were incredibly helpful, sorting out our waiting list train tickets for us, and even presenting me with a cake on my birthday ( they noticed it on my passport). I strongly recommend a stay here, it was a holiday highlight.
