Hotel Illunion Las Lomas, Merida
We had some trouble finding this Hotel mainly because our GPS kept sending around a housing development, however we eventually did find it just on the outskirts of he town. It is a nice, clean, comfortable Hotel with ample parking, wifi and also a restaurant and bar. The only problem with that is that after a long dayâs travelling you need to relax, have a drink and a meal and go to bed early, however, the bar and restaurant donât open until 9pm! This is pretty much the case throughout Spain as they like to eat very late. So off we went down into the town and what a town this is if you are into historical sites. We were too late to see the central historical site that had the Roman theatre etc., and so were disappointed, but we walked into the town and there in the middle of town was the Temple of Diana, free for all to see and what an amazing site it was to think it had been built two thousand years ago and a lot of it still standing the history of it leapt out at you and you could feel the presence of the Romans there, and then on to the Roman Bridge which was another structural feat and still completely functional so you could walk the long bridge over the river from one end to the other.
At every turn there was Roman remains and plenty more to see, but we were only there for the one evening so definitely a place to come back to and stay longer.
We found a restaurant called Serendipity that advertised being open for food all day, which we thought was very enterprising of them and had some delicious tapas there (before 9pm!) Will review this separately.

We stayed here for one night on the way from Portugal to Madrid. The rooms are a good size with good beds and a nice bathroom. Merida is very nice with Roman ruins to walk around and a fun pedestrian area with shopping that stays open late even on weeknights. I recommend Restaurant Capriccio Italiano in the Centro Comercial El Foro all the way at the other end of Avenida Reina Sofia for some excellent pizza.

We were welcomed by the sunshine a free drink and helpful cheerful staff . Pool and garden an oasis in the city . A little out of town but perfect for us as we had expensive items in our car . Room simple clean and perfect temperature . Decent toiletries . Staff very polite . Breakfast great value . Waiter helpful and funny . All in all the best value hotel in the whole of our journey so far . A big thank you to all staff would have loved to stay longer in beautiful cultural Merida and will be back .

It was a king size room, plenty of space, a king size bed, 2 TV's screen, one in front of the bed, another on the "living room", big and clean bathroom, with separate bathtub of hydromassageand and shower.
A good swiming pool. With that temperature and after a long motorbike journey through Irland, France, Spain and to finish in Portugal it was perfect.
A excelente Paella for dinner!!

Very nice hotel in the outskirt of the city, with a decent swimming pool. The hotel was a bit crowded as it was friday night. It offers a fair breakfast, do not expect a lot of variety.
all in all it was worth it.
