We had a nice weekend in May at this Harz property. It is a simple but good a hotel. The owner and staff were very accommodating and bent over backwards to insure that we were looked after. The town of Rubeland is a few kilometers from Wernigrode. One of the things I like most was that it probably is reminiscent of old Saxony. The map outside our room showed the inner German Border and in the bottom corner (albeit covered) was the label "DDR". If you are looking for simple, large, clean accommodations this is a nice choice. We had half board and the dinners were both filling and very good. While we were the only English speaking guests, the owner insured we were taken care of and despite an obvious language barrier it did not both the proprietor caring for us and us having a good stay. The property is good value for money.
