Glamorous friendly hotel in a great location

Many thanks to all for a lovely stay - clean, funky and very nice and helpful staff on reception and concierge services. The pool is fab too. Very quiet for sleeping and we enjoyed the breakfast although never had room for the doughnut trolley they bring round! Recommended.
Brilliant

We stayed August 2017. We asked for a high room and were not provided with one when we checked in - so we asked for a different room. Initially we were told there were no other rooms however after pressing the receptionist managed to find a different room for us. Not sure if it was because of platinum status but the room we were eventually provided with was an upgraded room. (Given the status - it would have been good to have got this room initially given they do say they try and upgrade platinum members where possible)
The room itself was great - modern and spacious and a little view of a cathedral. Amazing large waterfall shower. Location is great - walking distance of Nice's main shopping and bout 10 minutes from the train station (walk).
We used our points to have the breakfast which was really great. Cooked breakfast plus a really great spread. (As the cost was quite high, we probably wouldn't have done this without points)
Special mention to Elizabetta at reception - she went out of her way to try and find us reservations at restaurants we wanted to eat at and was generally really helpful and friendly.
We definitely benefit from some perks from being marriott members (upgrade and free extensive breakfasts) - but all being equal we would definitely stay here again. Staff are super friendly too.
5 star prices, 1 star service

For various reasons we had a very poor experience at this hotel. Despite raising reasonable concerns, we never felt that the poor service was properly addressed and I feel that a 1 star rating is warranted. To support this low grade, I will paste the content of the concern we raised to the hotel after our stay (we were offered 10,000 Marriott Reward points as a result if our complaints which we did not want and have no use for):
We stayed at the Boscolo Exedra Nice from Friday 13th October to Monday 16th October 2017. The stay was to celebrate my partners 50th and was a gift from me. I paid over and above what I normally would as I wanted a really special luxurious weekend and for us to feel looked after. The cost per room per night was 220EUR room only.
Our issues revolve around the poor standard of room service that we experienced and the fact that after we finally decided to report the matter, the issues were not addressed.
Because there were so many minor details, I will set them out in bullet points:
The toilet was filthy with a build up of filth and bacteria coming down from the rim - have photos for reference.
The music player in the room was filthy. In addition, it was an iPod docking station suitable for use up to iPhone 4 so unless you had a 6 year old iPhone, you couldnât listen to music. Have photos for reference
We received no bed turn down service.
The face flannels were removed after the first night and were not replenished again.
There was no shower gel.
The hair dryer supplied was cheap and not fit for purpose.
Two bars of soap were supplied at the start of our stay and were not renewed.
We had no milk to make drinks in the room after the first night.
The tea was not replaced after the first night.
Dirty glasses were left on the bedside tables after room service.
Small items around the sink and bath were not arranged neat and tidy after room service.
Empty plastic bottles were left in the room after room service.
Little things like toilet rolls were left on the dispenser when they only had a few sheets left.
We couldnât get the shower head to function although this was explained to us and it did work.
We were reluctant to complain the first day because complaining is a negative process and we didnât want to spoil the stay. However, after two nights of poor service we decided we should complain. I spoke to reception who handed us over to guest relations. I outlined all the issues and received an apology. The lady said she would speak to her manager and would confirm to us their direction. We went back up to the room. Five minutes later, a bottle of prosecco arrived with six macarons and within a further two minutes the telephone rang. The lady from guest relations said that she was very sorry for our inconvenience and was pleased to confirm that they would remove our room service and mini-bar charges up to this point. I asked her to confirm what the charges were. They came to 33EUR. I said that I was not happy with the suggestion and would get back to them. Five minutes later, they called again and said that they would deduct 100EUR from the bill and also remove the 33EUR room charges. We didnât want the debate to dominate our stay so we accepted. Reception asked us to confirm when we left the room (it was about 5pm at this point) that evening and room service would correct the issues we had reported.
We left the room at 7.30pm and told reception when we left. When we got back we could see that room service had been in the room. However, the toilet was still filthy, the music player was still filthy, there was still no milk or tea, the soap had not been replaced, there still was no shower gel, there were two dirty glasses by the bed, the bed had not been turned down (have photos for reference), no turndown chocolates, there were still no face cloths. Basically nothing had been done to address our concerns.
The next morning, when we were checking out, my partner had to pop back to the room to get a water bottle we had left behind. The Duty Manager was there (Nicolas) and he said he was checking that room service had corrected the issues (why he didnât check the night before I donât understand). My partner pointed out that they had not and physically showed him the issues in the room. My partner also showed him the pictures we had taken when we got in that night. There was no defence, the Duty Manager simply said it wasnât acceptable, they needed to do better and he kept apologising. He then said he wanted to apologise to me so he followed my partner down and apologised to me face to face but this was just too little too late as we were checking out feeling very unhappy about our stay.
By this stage, we both thought that the meaningless apologies were nothing short of insulting. We had paid a premium price to stay at a 5 star hotel. We had received poor service and had politely reported it. We had received an insulting offer of compensation to coincide with a free bottle of prosecco and when we had not accepted this, the hotel begrudgingly increased the reduction to 133EUR. Worse still, having been through this process, no improvements were made and when the Duty Manager could see with his own eyes how poor the standard was, he just repeatedly apologised but didnât take any action.
Due to the fact that the issues we highlighted were not resolved we would like a second opinion on our belief that the compensation offered was not appropriate and welcome your response on the matter.
Excellent on everything you could care about.

I was impressed with this hotel before I even got to the check-in desk. The outside of the building is beautiful, as is the lobby. Very clean and classic with huge statues. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The standard of service was absolutely excellent. I had a fantastic room with a balcony, Iâll let the photos do the talking. The location is also superb. 2 minute walk to the main shopping street, Avenue Jean Médecin and a 10 minute walk to the beach and the old medieval town, which is where you find the highest concentration of bars and restaurants. If I ever visit Nice again I will stay here for certain. There is some extensive work going on in the road outside at the moment building a new station on Boulevard Victor Hugo underground for the east-west tramline in Nice. Donât be put off by this though, this work didnât disturb me at all (my balcony overlooked Boulevard Victor Hugo) and taxis can still get to the front door.
Most amazing week in Nice

Very friendly professional staff , understanding the guests needs. Food was awesome with an incredible variety everyday. Room was very clean with a most comfortable bed and very large shower. True to French tradition the art Decor was very impressive.
