Basically Awful

Having stayed in many 'buget' establishments around the UK you're expecting basics, sadly this one failed on many levels. Entrance hall to room reeked of cigarette smoke. The room was not only tired, dirty with damaged decor, plug sockets and kettle was also faulty. Floor, carpet, walls, chairs dirty, damaged... The list could go on, but I think you get the idea. Bathroom same, no shower stuff, or plugs, bonus tho all towels clean. Staff friendly so that's a bonus I guess. Buget and basic is fine as room under £50 but really...
Avoid at all costs

Filthy, worn out, very poor state of repair.
Black mold around the window and in the bathroom, shower had black and pink build up of dirt, tiles in the bathroom also had dirt and hair on, door to room held together with tape, a thick layer of dust behind the bed and bedside table, chair in the room did not comply with fire regulations, PAT testing, some items not tested since 2007 others has a sticker with no date, dead insects on the window sill.
Restaurant not open for evening meal only breakfast and the Bar and Bar meals left a lot to be desired.
Cooked Breakfast was about the best thing, however do not have the scrambled egg!
The best thing Britannia Hotels could do is to hire a skip, gut the whole place and refurb,
Cancelled without my knowledge

I had booked this hotel as I was going to a gig at the Macron Stadium nearby. I booked the hotel well in advance (9 months to be precise) through Booking.com. The booking was pay on arrival. All sorted I thought, great. I got an email on Boxing Day from Booking.com stating the hotel had tried to validate my card but it had failed due to an incorrect expiry date and I had 24 hours to correct this. Fair enough, totally my error witha typo. I immediatley amended the details and I recived an email saying all was ok. The next day I received another email advising my booking had been canx, due to incorrect card details?? The booking was pay on arrival anyway? After numerous phone calls to the hotel and booking.com it turned out the hotel had tried to validate my card only once and because of the error in the expiary date they hotel had cancelled my booking. They did not try to contact me to obtain card details or even payment, both of which I could of provided. The hotel immeditaley re-sold my two rooms and I couldn't get them back. We are now left with no choice but to stay in Manchester, miles away from the gig. Terrible service from Britannia and I will not book through this hotel chain again.
Worst News Years National Holiday Dec 2017

We had booked with another couple to go away for New Years on National Holiday to Chester, Liverpool & Lakes staying at Britannia Hotel for Dec. 29-Jan. 2nd. The rooms were clean , the usual standard. The breakfasts were good every morning. Now to the evening meals. Very poor especially on New Years Eve. They put on a cold buffet for the main meal. Most of the food was garbage. Thank god for cheese and crackers which ended up being our dinner. I enjoy taped music usually. The artist they had on was OK during the early part of dinner as he kept the music level not too loud. After dinner he cranked the music right up. I asked him if he would turn down the music a little as,we couldn't even hear each other. Before I got back to our table he cranked the music up even louder. He as was very ignorant. Luckily we were able to sit in the garden room where at least we could have a conversation. We all ended going to our rooms before 10:30pm. The staff was very helpful to us during our stay. Would not recommend going here for News Years as it really was not worth the £239.00pp that we paid for 4 days.
DISGUSTED AND APPALLED

The first warning sign was the Stupid gate as you arrive on to property it is supposed to be for security but the place is far from secure when the property is surrounded by houses that people can just walk around your cars. The second warning sign was the very large pot holes right outside the front entrance that our car bottomed out on. Third the receptionist was friendly enough when we first checked in but after not so much. as we headed to the our room the hall carpet was Gaff taped together and there were black marks and scuffs on all the doors and walls...as if they have never been washed and the carpets are old and dated.
Now for the actual room hmmm where to start well the bathroom mirror had dust and water marks all over it. the mattress you could feel the bed springs through, there were footprints on the wall and stains on the curtians, picked up the phone and there was some orangey Stuff where the mouth piece rests. there was dust on the tv and cobwebs and dust on the windows. Stains on the fabric chair and the Desk/Table that holds the tv was ready to fall off the wall...The view from our window was that of a broken fence and everyones back yard....But the worst thing was the sign in the room that said what sort of cliental that normally stay there...All Hotels have NO SMOKING SIGNS and that is fine and expected BUT... BUT in this Hotel the signs say NO SMOKING OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES OF ANY KIND ALLOWED....I have never stayed anywhere that says that it made me feel cheap and offended....it reminds me of a Student accomodation or hostil. We were willing to see if it was just that room but they had no other room to offer so we demanded our money back and left...then the gate would not open when we left to top it off...
I am a large events organizer and was there on business and was looking to advertise and promote the hotel to our 300 guests for a possible place to stay during the conference but now I will tell them to avoid the place and the reasons why.
Over all I am offened, disgusted and appalled at the place and will never recommend anyone stays there again.
