Weekend Away

I stayed at Broome Park, in an apartment for a 2 night stay with my two best friends. We wanted a fun and relaxing place to stay in Canterbury for a girly weekend away and this is what we got.
On arrival, the hotel and grounds are beautiful; so imposing and it definitely had the wow factor and packs a punch in terms of being different to the usual travel lodge!
Check in was really smooth and we were put in an apartment with two beds and a sofa bed.The sofa bed wasnât made up and the rooms are in serious need of a refurb, very run down, cold and a smidge creepy! However we found it to be very clean, a good size and all round a bit funny to be honest so made the best of it.
We paid for breakfast on the next morning which was a bit slow but nice and used the gym, pool and sauna which were really good.
The atmosphere was non existent as there was hardly anyone there, we amused ourselves and only wanted something chilled and went into Canterbury for dinner but donât book this place if you arenât prepared to make your own entertainment.
The staff were lovely and so welcoming and helpful and we loved hearing about the ghost stories (even if they were embellished for our entertainment!)
All in all, this is not a 5 star hotel by any stretch and needs some serious money spending on it as it really could be incredible. That being said, we had a lovely weekend away and we got a really cheap deal and didnât expect anything mindblowing. Iâm still glad we stayed here as we wouldnât have laughed and been spooked half as much if weâd stayed in a ânormalâ budget hotel so if you have an open mind then take a punt!

Bearing in mind the price we paid through Travelzoo for a night at this establishment one could not complain about our experience. The hotel is certainly magnificent in some respects, mainly the historical content but the dining experience leaves a little to be desired. Food presented was more than adequate and nicely cooked ,especially the breakfast but the ambience in the dining room left one feeling that the building deserved a better atmosphere in a place that one liked to spend some time in digesting ones food. The staff were excellent throughout, cheerful, polite and very helpful. Our bedroom seemed to be in the attic, perhaps this reflected in the price we paid and although the room was well proportioned and the beds very comfortable indeed, again the room was very bland. The hot water system for this room needs attention as the noise of the pump supplying the bath and the time it took to quarter fill the bath was not in keeping with a hotel of this standard.Having said all this we enjoyed our stay and as they say , you only get what you pay for.
Terrible experience

Beautiful building but inside is so disappointing. Quality of room, restaurant, service very poor. Not even any soap in the hand basin. Restaurant was a joke. What should have been a treat night away way so awful. Would never go back.

Amazing hotel, with some wow factor - we stayed in the Oxenden Room which was a great size and lovely views onto open fields - Gym was unfortunately closed on the weekend of our stay due to air con issues (disappointing) but pool and sauna were open. Very grand and historic venue - will return for sure - because of the age of the venue you could hear some squeaking from the room above but not really an issue overall. No room service available :-) but you can take you food to your room yourself. 15 minute pleasant bus ride to Canterbury. Staff were great and accommodating. I understand that the hotel is under new management.
Lovely place to visit

I visited Broome Park with my partner to see what it was like and potentially book up a room in the near future. The house is amazing and the grounds are spectacular. The bar and restaurant staff were very helpful and polite. Very welcoming. We had afternoon tea and the scones were beautiful. The mugs are very dated and ugly looking. Nice tea cups or glass mugs would look better. Thats my only negative comment.
