Excellent time had by all!

Apologies for the delay in writing this but I'd totally forgotten to complete after we returned from a wonderful holiday here last July / August!
So what can I say about the Cala D'Or Playa? Well overall had an excellent time and holiday. We had an apartment on the top floor overlooking the pool with a sea view which was fantastic and definitely made a difference in our opinion. Although the apartments were basic in some areas we knew this when we booked and so were not disappointed upon our arrival - clean and tidy and well maintained and that is all we asked for! The pool area albeit busy in the school holidays and considering it was hitting 40 degrees most days made for a great stay with our 2 year old enjoying his first holiday overseas as a result, so much so we only made one trip to the beach! As with everywhere these days there is naturally an issue with the dawn rise to grab a sun bed and I even witnessed people placing towels down at 4:30am some mornings whilst unable to sleep and sitting on the balcony!!!
Breakfast was overall again very good with enough choice for all however I wouldn't recommend eating there at lunch time - the one day we did we were faced unfortunately with a poor effort for a sandwich or two and some soggy looking chips with choice overall not great. We didn't eat at the apartments for dinner, preferring to walk into Cala D'Or centre and try the many restaurants just a stone's throw away.
Like ourselves I know most people won't choose accommodation based on evening entertainment, particularly if you like to go into town each evening instead but from what we did see it was OK to poor but was obviously geared towards the kids anyway. The team themselves obviously make considerable effort but it just wasn't our cup of tea.
Location is also very good, being close to two beaches in Cala D'Or, both of which are excellent and also close to the centre and only a little walk further down to the marina.
In summary I would say the Cala d'Or Playa are excellent value apartments, particularly if you have kids of a younger age and your budget doesn't stretch to some of the other 'top' end hotels in the area which may offer some more creature comforts as it were. Great pool, great location, would definitely go back but would ask for the same apartment!
Loved it! Great family holiday!

Myself my partner and our 3 kids spent 10 nights at these apartments during October and we loved every minute of it. We had booked bed and breakfast as we like to spend the evenings eating out but spending the days mainly around the pool with some days out down the beaches.
Breakfast: Superb, no complaints at all. In fact I would say this is one of the best breakfast offerings i've seen at a hotel in terms of quality and choice. The hot section offered proper bacon and sausages, the scrambled egg was perfect and the omelette bar was excellent too providing you like cheese and ham which I do. Add to this the cold meats/salad section, along with cereals fruits and pastries then you're on to a winner. Drinks were well supplied to with plenty of choice of fruit juices including a fresh orange juicer (the ones were you feed the oranges in yourself) and of course hot selections. If you're anything like me then you will really appreciate the added bonus of HP brown sauce, winner.
Apartments: We didn't book the superior room and so stayed in a standard which was comfortable enough for me and my family (2 x adults 1 x baby 1 x 9yr old and 1 x 8yr old). These were cleaned everyday and had a huge balcony. The self catering facilities in the room such as cutlery, microwave, fridge were also excellent. Rooms also have Air/Con at no extra cost.
Pool bar: Good selection of food of you wanted it although slightly pricey. We tried some of the meals as snacks through the day and had no complaints. Rudi and the team do a great job in terms of service.
Pool: Clean, fairly large although a bit cold. You get used to the temperature quiet quickly though and was refreshing especially on a really hot day.
Entertainment: We only really seen this throughout the day but have to say the team worked really hard for both kids and adults without being too pushy. I'd recommend the BBQ night, excellent food at an excellent price.
Evening: We ate out every night (apart from the BBQ night) and found some superb places such as La Bodega, Taste Of Texas. Walshies and the spice of india. We ate at La Bodega twice and Taste of Texas 3 times, these are approx a 10 to 15 min walk from the apartments and well worth a visit. Also seek out Cheeki Tiki for some great cocktails
Beaches/Calas: The apartments are situated right between two Calas - Cala Esmeralda and Cala Gran - both worthy of a few visits, the water is great and the views are lovely. Cala Esmeraldas is slightly closer to the apartments approx 5min walk with Cala Gran being approx 10min walk.
All in all we loved our holiday in Cala D'or and our stay at the apartments and will without doubt be visiting again and will be staying and the same apartments.
Highly recommend!
Great holiday

Just returned after staying here for 1 week with my husband!
Lovely clean apartment with huge balcony!! Rooms cleaned every day and staff all really friendly!!
Breakfast was really good with huge selection and always plentiful, with staff constantly clearing and replenishing. The man who works there at breakfast really works hard and is so friendly, a credit to the hotel.
Only had few drinks at hotel which were a bit on expensive side but most hotels are for drinks.
The hotel is ideally located for beaches and walking into town we had a lovely time.
The hotel is certainly equipped for families with children but didnât put us off just being a couple!
Cala d or is a fab place and wouldnât hesitate to return to this hotel!!
Truly gutted to be home!!!
A Brilliant Family Holiday.

We have just returned from a brilliant week in Cala D'or and our stay at the Cala D'or Playa Apartments. Check in was friendly and easy and our room was immaculate and well laid out. The only slight problem was the toilet seat wasn't attached properly but once reception was notified this was remedied immediately. The public areas were also very clean. We were there on B&B basis and the breakfast was superb with plenty of choice. The pool area was well laid out with plenty of sunbeds (which were free) and a nice splash area for the kids as well as a playground. The location of these apartments is spot on sitting between the beaches of Cala Gran and Cala Esmerelda and the town centre not 10 mins walk away. We were in a side room on the 3rd floor which was very quiet at night. Perfect when you have young children. There is a nice walkway outside the back gate of the hotel which takes you through an olive grove and you access the road via this to a mini train stop . I would recommend buying a ticket for the mini train as it takes you around the resort of Cala D'or and may give you some good ideas on where to visit and places to eat etc. The staff at Cala D'or Playa are brilliant. Very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this accommodation very highly for young families.

The hotel had allocated us exactly the room we had asked for (223, block B, top floor, overlooking the pool and the garden). However when we arrived we realised that the balconies of the top floor rooms have solid walls rather than railings, which meant that our kids couldn't easily see the view. Despite the hotel being fully booked they were really helpful and managed to switch us with the room below (123) with only a very short wait, during which time the kids launched themselves into the pool!
We booked half board, so made little use of the kitchenette facilities but it was well equipped. The room was clean and comfortable but we didn't spend a lot of time in it other than for sleeping.
The food at breakfast and dinner was tasty, fresh and plentiful. Nothing especially 'spanish' on offer, the catering seemed geared to the mainly British and German clientele. Breakfast included freshly made omelettes, eggs, bacon, hash browns, beans, courgette fritters (ok, not so British!), mushrooms, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cheeses, cold meats, toast etc. A machine made freshly squeezed orange juice and two coffee machines meant the queue never got too long. Dinner were similarly varied and included freshly cooked steak/chicken/lamb and fish each night, plus pasta dishes, rice dishes, a fresh and appetising salad bar, daintily presented starter 'nibbles', a wide range of cakes and fresh fruit and pots of desserts.
We were particularly impressed by the Animacion team, Rosie, Anna and the boys, who ran kids and adults activities during the day and put on very accomplished dance shows at night.
The location of the hotel is fantastic - two minutes walk to the beach (Cala Gran), and the centre of the resort with a variety of restaurants and touristy shops. A small market popped up on Sunday evening. We tried but got lost looking for Cala Esmeralda, though it's even closer. The water at Cala Gran was clean and gently shelved so great for kids to paddle/swim, beach well kept and clean, soft sand with rocky paths either side. We took our hire car to Cala Mondrago on one day which is a beautiful beach also.
The hotel pool is clean and pleasant, with a bubble pool, kids pool and mini water playground. Plenty of sunbeds available (though we weren't there in high season). Weather in mid-October was comfortably warm although the pool was a bit chilly to start with (but I'm a wuss!). The covered dining area adjacent to the pool offered shade and activities for children during the day. Sun started to set around 5.30, which gave time to get washed up and ready for dinner 7-9pm. Mini disco for the kids started at 8.30pm. There was also a bouncy castle alongside the stage during the evening to amuse the kids!
