We visited Tobago from the end of January for 2 weeks and well what can we say it was amazing. The surroundings, food, accommodation, people and staff made our trip a memory we will never forget. Thank you to all of the staff who made it so special. Views from our room were breath taking and ones we will never forget. Our children aged 1 and 2 were treated impeccably and always felt welcome wherever we went in the hotel. A big thumbs up for us and one day we would love to return. Thank you Victoria and Tim Knight

I'll start by saying I went here with a group of professional golfers, so it was a blessed and beautiful time. That said, the food sucked. The relaxation itself was okay but the rooms were substandard for a place this pretty. The pools were nice but the service was moderate. The weather was also capricious. I feel like if you jumped into the water you'd have an 80% chance of death. The winds would really pick up and the rain would be sudden.
The gold resort was not as pristine as one would expect either. Still with all that said it was not worth a 2. It's an all around good time, I just have a thing against resorts, a bit. ha.

Please go and visit here because it is an incredible resort that deserves a second chance! The beds were comfortable and the management really cares about the comfort of their guests. The restaurants and staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. Kalina was a real dining highlight of our trip. Executive chef Eduardo and Chef Sharisse are to be commended for their food and its prep. The golf course on the property is a Jack Nicklaus design that will be one of my husbands favorite ever. I can't give a 5 star review because the property is behind on some maintenance issues. If it can iron out some of these kinks, it will be worthy of all 5 stars. Even still, it is a very nice property and we felt like it was our private oasis because it was so empty.

The holiday was fabulous and we will return to the Magdalena Grand with luck. We chose to be out of carnival season. The benefits for us were:
⢠The environment, spotlessly clean, standards are high, comfortable beds, extremely quiet and relaxing
⢠Superb support and service from all staff, we felt we mattered
⢠A high management presence at the customer interface, responding to feedback
⢠Lovely food, choice of places to eat, healthy options and a Caribbean flavour
⢠No music at the pool side, no aqua aerobics, or enforced entertainments, just the sound of the Atlantic Ocean
⢠We have come home relaxed and well.

What a great island! We went to the Magdalena Grand after being warned that Trinidad had some issues with crime. The Magdalena is in a beautiful location on the Atlantic side of the island of Tobago. We were upgraded to a suite, which was nice. The room was clean and spacious...and it had a lovely view of the breezy Atlantic. So here is my entire review:
Staff: Let me start here because the staff are wonderful. Mandisa made amazing rum drinks. She did a wonderful job and should be rewarded for her hard work. She is a hustler and did everything to make us happy. Likewise Pamela from the Robinson Crusoe bar was a favorite. She took care of our every need and even stopped by to speak to us whenever she saw us. She was awesome as well. Kerline,Monifa, Krystal, Kiev (the egg cooker) and Carla (in the buffet) were also favorites. The front desk with Judy and I believe it was Troy were awesome. The entire front desk staff was great and always attempted to accommodate us. These people (all of the above) are assets to this property and I advised the General Manager Vinod Bajaj of such. I intend to write him and the Government (who partially oversee the property) about the resort, the staff, etc.
Food: Very good..flavorful and plentiful. The resort was out of diet cokes (who runs out of diet cokes?) however did go and obtain some. I was slightly surprised by this, but they were more than accommodating in obtaining them. I was a little disappointed by the lack of options for dinner, but we were only there for 5 days. Had it been longer, I would have gotten tired of the choices. The restaurants were not all open each night...this could have been due to the low occupancy at the hotel. Overall tho, food was good and service was awesome.
Room: OK..so there is no HOT water..it's warm...this needs improved...Also needed a working jacuzzi and lights on the patio. Outside lights on balcony did not work. Called maintenance who advised this would require the ceiling to be ripped out. UH..that's a big no. Beautiful room...but such a shame. Also no bottled waters in the room...this is much needed for visitors from abroad. Also, some difficulty with replenishments of towels, coffee, etc. Showers were not cleaned each day. I left a wrapper in the shower the entire time I was there and it was not removed. Just an observation. TV has limited channels..I didn't care, but others staying there did. Internet was not the greatest.
TOURS AND DRIVERS: ASK FOR GLEN P. HE'S AWESOME..TRULY...TRUSTWORTHY, FRIENDLY, A GREAT DRIVER WITH A CLEAN VEHICLE. HE WILL SHOW YOU THE WHOLE ISLAND..A WORTHY DAY WHILE IN TOBAGO.
ENTERTAINMENT: Lackluster. However, the shining spot were two women who sang on Friday night in the Robinson Crusoe lounge. I was surprised by their talent. They were not your typical bar entertainment. I really enjoyed them. But HELLO..how about some type of entertainment on Saturday and Sunday nights? Saturday was Karaoke which is something that a lot of people won't participate in. This is Tobago..how about a few steel drums or even steel drums and a DJ..or something????Entertainment not so awesome besides on Friday...all other nights we were there Sun, Mon, entertainment was non existent.
NOW TO THE RESORT ITSELF. The pools are beautiful. The views stunning. HOWEVER this resort needs to have a major maintenance overhaul..from the non existent ice machines to the ratty elevator....maintenance is needed...painting, replacing of electrical receptacles and repair of wiring is needed. It could also use a fresh coat of paint along with some much needed window washing throughout the entire property. All of the outside bar areas look dated and need replaced...all of the speakers are covered in brown rust, and there are rusty areas around the entire property. The outside dining area bar has light bulbs without globes covering them...which is totally basic and unattractive....but come on...how about some globes over the light bulbs.I get it, it's on the Atlantic, it's at the ocean..it gets spray on it...but I've been to other resorts and there is someone always..and I mean always keeping these things clear. The bathrooms in the hallways outside of restaurants need new toilet seats, soap dispensers and overall attention. They are clean..but still..for the money..they should be top notch.Pictures are not hung evenly. paint is chipping....just little things that make it stand out to almost anyone observing. The best description of the resort is that it's tired. This is disheartening in light of the cost of an all inclusive visit.
I loved the Resort tho and would love to return. I would hope that the General Manager would show this review to the powers that be so that changes can be made in the maintenance of the property. I am pretty picky about resorts far from home..and this is no exception. It plainly just needs some work. Once this is completed, it needs to ADVERTISE...because the staff and location and island are awesome. I would love to return if I were provided with a cost that matched the property condition..or if some work were completed. I feel definitely I paid premium for not a premium condition resort.
So, that's my review. I'm giving it a 4 because of the staff, view and food. Upgrading the common areas, hallways and rooms would definitely earn it a 5. Come on Vinod. Bug your management/government for the necessary monies to make this resort top notch! I would bring many with me if you did!
