Lovely Stay

I really enjoyed my stay at the Croppers Arms, the bedroom was spacious and clean, all staff where very friendly, I stayed because I was going to the football at Huddersfield town so can be reached walking, would definitely recommend.

A room at the pub, no more, no less

gleirvik on 02/11/2017 20:49

Access to the upstair room was interesting, a steep staircase that starts on the floor in the bar area, then straight up and to the left.

Very nice people, the bar maid showed us to our room, the lady that served us breakfast. Being old fashioned, the room was cosy enough upstair facing the street and met our expectations. As such my rating is not relative to my expectations - but to the hotel market in general. Still for what it is - it was excellent, for the price it was very good. The full english breakfast made it into a bargain. Parking in the back was safe but slightly confusing in the dark as most of the places are reserved for other businesses. Still close to the pub you are good.

Just what we needed

pebs2014 on 14/09/2017 23:31

We stayed for just the one night and this Inn met all our needs. We arrived mid day and the bar lady showed us to our room. She explained the fire escape procedures and how to access our room outside pub opening hours. All the staff we met were friendly, smiling and helpful.
Our room -5-was at the front of the building next to a busy road but the traffic noise did not interfere with our sleep. The room was clean, bright, nicely decorated and spacious enough for our needs. The bed was quite soft with bright white bed linen. There was a bedside light on one side of the bed. Our en-suite included a bath with a shower over the bath. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and bath or shower gel were not supplied although there was a container of liquid soap. The towels were pure white and soft. We had tea and coffee supplies in our room. Fresh milk, iron and hairdryer were all available if asked for. There was a dedicated dining room for residents which was welcoming and nicely decorated and had some nice touches eg fresh milk was served in mini milk bottles. There was a choice of breakfast meals including full English - Bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, baked beans, mushrooms and toast. My husband had poached egg on toast. Cereals and fruit juice were also served. We had home made tomato soup and a roast beef sandwich from the £5.50 lunch menu on the day we arrived and it was delicious. In the evening we had a rump steak meal deal £25 for two people which included a dessert of ice cream and a bottle of wine. We asked for one medium and one medium well done steak but both came well done. Next time we go we will order one of the many home cooked meals that they had on the menu. Tuesday night was a general knowledge quiz that started about 21.00hrs and many people came earlier and ordered meals about which we heard many compliments. The steak and onion pie and chilli all looked delicious.
The only downside for us relating to our stay was breakfast times of 7.30am to 9.00am Monday to Friday (an hour later at weekends) and the check out being 10.00am.weekdays and 11.00am weekends. We would have liked them to be just a bit later.
The Croppers has its own car park at the rear and a bus stop just outside the front door with regular buses to Huddersfield. The Co-op Supermarket is just over the road as is a Fish and Chip shop. There are a number of other shops, hair salons in the area. The Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Hospital is under a mile away as is Greenhead Park.

I believe there are only six rooms available in this Inn.

Friendly home from home

Booking was easy. The proprietor and staff are very friendly and made us feel most welcome. We came back at 11.30 am having missed breakfast and we were offered bacon and egg rolls on the house as an example. At all times we were made to feel as if it were home. A great touch for people who travel as much as we do.

cheap and nasty sobering experience

coventry0 on 05/06/2017 17:05

Its a pub, but it closed at 22.00 even for residents, did not stop staff and friends using it, new definition of private bar. the decor is tired and dirty glass light shades in room had months of grime on . breakfast table , sugar bowl overrun with ants. replaced sugar bowl with dirtier one with spoon covered in hardened sugar . breakfast included cheap sausage over cooked in a deep fat fryer , knife could not make a mark on it never mind cut it. when we pointed out some of these things to the senior lady serving us ,she replied each time "i'll tell im "
We never found out who im was. she was unmoved by our disappointment and i can only assume our service was par for the course.
