OK - the hotel is good. The rooms are a little dark for my liking, but otherwise everything is fine. Only issue is, while it is close to public transport, the local area is pretty uninspiring. So why the 5 stars? The people! Staff at hotel, taxi drivers, bus drivers, people at the airport, people in the street. I have never been to a country with so much joie-de-vie. My only regret was not staying an extra night and not coming earlier. I don't know if the rest of Portugal is like this, but go to Porto, stay in this hotel, and you will have an experience to remember for the rest of your life.

Well appointed room, cordial and helpful staff and quality sleep helped me enjoy the stay at Crowne Plaza Porto. I seem to be the only one who missed the complementary glass of port - everyone else who stayed there seem to have had that luxury. The breakfast was well stocked and tasty. In all, it was a perfect stay!

Stayed for 3 nights on a business trip with 8 others - all of us were similarly very impressed.....
The staff were absolutely superb in every aspect - they all went out of their way to make your stay the very best possible - really huge credit to them all....
Room was huge and very comfortable - huge bed and chaise lounge plus 2 chairs in the room and still loads of room to move around and enjoy the space/amenities...
Bathroom was perfect, nice toiletries too and really quiet room - sleep quality was 10/10 for sure....
Bar area was under renovations however the superb staff did their best to accommodate all of us and kept us fed and watered very well....
Breakfast was plentiful and varied - everything you could want was available...
WIFI was fast and nice touch to receive a glass of Port upon check in....
Valet parking was fast and efficient plus taxis are cheap to get to wherever you needed.
Wouldn't stay anywhere else when in Porto next - really impressed....

We stayed in Crowne Plaza for 6 nights at the end of December on the 8th floor.
The hotel is quite a walk from Casa di Musica metro station. Taxis are cheap - 10 euros to the centre and 20 minutes to the airport so as a family you do not massively save on using public transport instead.
Check in was one of the nicest we have ever experienced. The gentleman called Francois had explained everything, found us junior suite at a reasonable extra fee and even took me upstairs so I can choose the upgrade I prefer out of 2 choices available. I went for a brighter room and really appreciated the selection. We had problems with the heating but the maintenance has been sent in no time.
There was fresh bottle of complimentary water supplied daily.
The room was large with ample sitting area and tea facilities. Windows do open, which is a big plus. Bed is quite comfortable.
There is pingo dolce supermarket right opposite the hotel.
We did not use the restaurant as prices were three times higher than out in town. We only used room service once and it came on the table, nicely presented but food was average. It has arrived very quickly however.
The stay was lovely except of inconsistent housekeeping. One day was spot on and another day there were dirty glasses left and supplies were not restocked or not enough towels available.
Overall I would very much recommend this hotel as staff is very polite and they will do anything for you. When there is a problem, they will put it right. It feels very safe inside. The management is definitely doing a good job and the staff looks like they are happy to work there, which translates into good customer experience.

Stayed there for two nights while touring the country. As a family we were given two adjacent, very large rooms with nice bathrooms and lots of amenities. It is situated in the large Avenida de Boavista, close to the centre (40' on foot), so it is a good starting point for descovering this vibrant city.
Only minus for the average breakfast buffet, perhpas due to the refurbishment of the main restaurant area.
