Great building , a bit so so everything else

The dinner is a bit on the low side, starter is not bad , the main is very very so so, the dessert actually is the best of all. On site staff are friendly, but the place doesnât have much to offer to be honest.
Disappointing anniversary stay full of problems

Booked two nights at Eynsham Hall Hotel for our 1 year wedding anniversary, as we got married in nearby Burford. As you can see from other reviews, there are some amazing pluses to this hotel. However, our first 24 hours at the hotel were full of problems as outlined below, making it a very disappointing start to our anniversary:
We had booked a cosy room for 2 nights on 28th and 29th December. We were in the annexe building by the pool.
* We arrived at the hotel late into the afternoon and were still told the room "might not be ready" by reception. Just not good enough to disappoint your guests like this hours after the official check-in time (see someone else has had this issue).
* Checked into room and had to phone reception to get cleaners in, pubic hair and sticky surface all over shower floor. Hairs in the sink. Cleaner dealt with this.
*Room was small but it was beautifully decorated and clean overall. Manager keeps saying they are described as 'compact'. Not on booking.com where a vast amount of your clients probably book, so you need to address this.
* Terrible night sleep - pipe/heating noise all night. If you can't offer a peaceful night sleep without a constant droning noise then don't offer it as a bedroom! Basic!
* Cold tap made a horrendous screeching noise every time you used it, so just popping to the loo in the night would wake the other person up when washing hands.
* A door in the room next to us (not sure if it was main door or wardrobe door) was soooo creaky, again a basic part of being in a hotel, make sure doors aren't creaky and waking you up! Bit of WD40 would have completely avoided this problem.
* Plug didn't fit the sink so you were forced to use a mixed of boiling and freezing water from the separate taps.
* Duvet was absolutely overwhelming. Obviously people have their preferences, but there was no alternative to the feather duvet that absolutely swamped us (another guest has said the same below). We ended up using towels.
* We were so exhausted after a terrible night sleep (as shown on my husband's Fitbit) that we missed breakfast which finished at 9am on weekday, so it was pointless paying extra for that.
* After the cleaners had been on the second day they made up the bed with an additional blanket on the end and a decorative cushion - why wasn't this there on our first day? (Just to point out we had still not made any complaints at this point except the hair)
* Went to use the pool which was absolutely freezing and it's 1.5m depth (same height as me) the whole way along. Clearly this can't be changed by the hotel, but it's not a relaxing pool area at all, more like a kids swimming lesson pool. Don't book on the basis of a relaxing swim, find somewhere else.
I had not complained about any of these individual issues (except the hair) as I can tolerate a certain amount, nothing is perfect I understand that. However all together the first night was so awful that I was dreading another sleepless night so I went to the reception at around 5pm. The duty manager was very understanding and immediately moved us to a room within the main house for our second night, which was beautiful and I will review it separately.
Beautiful surroundings but the basics of a hotel is surely a good night sleep!!! I've had better nights sleeps in a Travelodge.
No doubt the manager responding will have a come back for all of the above, however a simply apology and acknowledgement of the problems would be far more appropriate.
New Year Package

The package included afternoon tea, dinner, bed and breakfast and disco. Afternoon tea was excellent, dinner mediocre and breakfast was poor, constantly running out of food and several dis-satisfied customers. Our room was excellent, but up several flights of stairs. There is no lift, so it was difficult, even with only overnight luggage. The service was excellent and friendly.

Had to find a place at the last minute as we had been driving for a long time. Myself and my disabled partner, and three ASBO dogs. I made a reservation 20 minutes before we got there, and they had everything ready for us.
Unfortunately they had a power failure and we couldn't eat in the restaurant, but they provided sandwiches and had a pizza delivery made for all the residents.
Breakfast was superb!
Our room in the Annex was small, but very clean.
The staff were superb considering the power problems they were having, and looked after everyone with skill and professionalism, escorting my disabled partner to the toilet and helping her back.
At checkout we had a large bar tab. Have that on us, apologies for the power problems. That's what I call a first class establishment.
Also many thanks to the kitchen who only had a couple of hours to get breakfast ready for everybody after the power came back, first class job!!
High Expectation - very low realities

We knew from the price that when we were booking that we wouldn't be in the main hall of the hotel. However, at no point in the booking does it inform you of this - this should be made more clear on the booking, in case more people don't realise. Even though we were aware we were in the cheaper adjacent rooms, we were still very disappointed with the room and the stay.
The room was very small and stupidly laid out. The photos show how the TV is just placed on a wall which is not practical to watch from the bed. Chairs and lamps were dirty and dusty - as shown in the photos. Remote control was sticky and unpleasant to touch. The noise at midnight - 2am - which we could only work out to be the water pipes was horrific. We did think about ringing down to reception but we thought we could be moved to a worse room where there was another annoying noise - for example the rooms near the main door into the building had to deal with a loud banging of the door every time someone walked in at random times all morning and night. The hotel should look into reducing this noise.
The gym and the pool facilities are a nice feature. The pool is small and every time we went the pool was packed - we tried all times of day. This is obviously fine - but if you are planning on going to the pool often to do some lengths then don't expect to get much room.
The main hall itself is very nice and we did go in there for a drink, but we didn't go for food as we felt that we didn't really want to give money to it when we weren't having a pleasant stay. Staff are polite but don't go fully out of their way to help us as you would expect in a place like this. When we arrived, we were early and we checked to see if we could check in early. We couldn't which was fine but no suggestion to take a seat by the fire or take a walk around the grounds. We checked back in at the time of check in and the room was still not ready - this time we were told to take a seat and wait, we assumed that we would be called up when the room was ready - but no it was up to us to check. It seems a shame that there isn't that top quality customer service in such a historic and beautiful building.
Will not stay again - even in the main building as we think we can get much better service in an equally nice building and surroundings elsewhere.
