Four of us stayed here on a motorcycle trip. I loved the history of the surrounding fort walls. The first impression as you ride in is impressive. The fort's walls, the chapel. In short, the history.
The interior of the hall is very clean and functional. Not hugely exciting on the eye though.
The reception team was very friendly and helpful. They also spoke excellent English.
My room looked over the courtyard, it was clean and tidy and nicely furnished The bathroom was also good.
We ate breakfast in the hotel next morning. It was one of the best we encountered on our trip.
The hotel was a short walk from lots of restaurants and we found a good one for dinner.
In summary: Lots of free parking, clean and nicely fitted, decent bathrooms, good location ,English speaking / friendly staff and decent food.

We stayed at the premium double room, which had lots of space and the bed was gigantic. Cleanliness in general is exquisite.
The hotel facilities do not impress (I had quite high expectations, tough). The decoration is very simple (not luxurious). The breakfast could explore a lot more the gastronomic products of the region - but it was just like so many others.

this is a very beautiful property that will offer you a quiet place to sleep in a strategic city location, which is great! the buildings have great historic value and are very well kept. we loved the whole surroundings, the pool area and exploring all the corners of the property. the room was very nice and clean, featuring a huge bed. the one let down was the bathroom - it was like walking into a 90's time warp. we also tried the property's restaurant and we definitely recommend - the food was gorgeous!

The stay at Hotel Forte Sao Francisco in Chaves was a pleasant one. The designation of premium room was adequate for what we got and paid. Restaurant (breakfast and dinner) and swimming pool ok. A very friendly and helpful staff. Some details regarding maintenance are lacking but apparently renovation plans are in process which will definetly increase my the level of my comments. Just a short side comment: if you need a haidresser try Elegance about 50 m from the hotel : you will like the final result!

The welcoming and the staff are very nice, service very good. Big pool and restaurant is just great. Breakfast are very good and served up to 10:30.
Based on location and the historical building, this is a true 4 stars. But they are some details that need to be taken care: 1) missing some maintenance in all the hotel (mainly lifts the need to be painted and but more modern), 2) corridors needs painting and remove some spiders net around , 3) wifi not very strong in the rooms 4) tv channels only addressing Spanish and portugaise needs, no English nor French channels despite a large amount of international guests speaking French, 5) spa and gym rooms existing , but not working. Overall a good hôtel
