What People are saying

Disappointed

Stetess on 03/02/2018 19:35

Arrived 9pm. Dispite advertised ck in until 10and food served until 10 Beautiful looking restaurant. Empty. No food available. Bar empty no draft beer bar closes at 10pm. Dash to local pub unfortunately 9.05 not serving food. Breakfast very disappointed at buffet breakfast.. Clearly no effort. No breakfast menu. But fellow guests ordered full English.. So we ordered. Looked very good but luke warm thought perhaps microwaved! Positive notes, lovely building, room comfortable, and clean. Staff one guy doing a great job in difficult Zero atmosphere. Stay again yes but not having the expectation of any food.

Underwhelming and very disappointing.

Having been born and raised in Northamptonshire, I always held the French Partridge in high regard. It's reputation as an amazing place to eat and stay seemed very aspirational. So on returning to Northants from Manchester to spend Christmas, I jumped at the chance to book a stay. However, I regret it and left thoroughly disappointed.

On arrival, late Boxing Day, we were shown to our room in the eaves, passing vacuum cleaners and broadband routers strewn randomly along the hallways. On entering the room, both windows were wide open - and when it's barely above freezing outside and pouring with rain, it's not a good idea. We stayed in this dingy room for minutes, having kept our coats on and asked to move. Begrudgingly, the lady allowed us to move to a family room, but told us wed have to move the following day - fine, but this was made to feel like our problem. So, met her on the stairs and relocated to the Horton - a brilliantly sized room, with random laptop tables and TV units as coffee tables, that was in dire need of decoration - just paint over the polyfila guys! Anyway, fine. It'll do. Until 7am, when the kitchen below the room opens up and the industrial extractor fan starts whirring - and it feels like an earthquake. Impossible to sleep through and I was hoping for a lie-in. So I complained, and was politely told there was nothing that could be done. Ok, fair enough, but the problem is clearly known and I'm clearly not the first to complain. Really poor.

Then breakfast, having been told on check-in that breakfast was 8 - 10, on arrival at 9.36, we were told it had closed, and were invited to choose from a plate of ham and a few sad looking yoghurts. We declined, and got a refund for breakfast - which we had to ask for, I add, service seems low on the agenda.

Day two, we were relocated to the Parr. Much nicer, cute room, again in need of serious TLC - the cracked bathroom window by this point wasn't a surprise. The bed was poor - guys, you need to fix the struts in the middle, they are loose. Again, it was kind of clean. Like all three rooms we saw, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling is a theme. And then, after something resembling sleep, ventured down for the 7.99 breakfast which was just about ok.

On check out, we got the first morning breakfast refunded, but no asking if we'd enjoyed our stay or 'hope to see you again', y'know, the standard stuff. Didn't even get a smile.

The place is miserable, there's more service and value for the same money, in a Premier Inn.

The FP could be so nice. Seriously. But miserable staff, crappy rooms, hallways that double as vacuum cleaner storage and the disrepair makes it a shambles. Avoid.

Relaxing & Peaceful

I booked in on Boxing Day afternoon to have two days to relax and unwind and i was NOT disappointed! Friendly staff, great room and wonderful bath!

Breakfast was good, poached eggs done to how i like them...and all this for a reasonable price!

Also got a view of a beautiful sunset from my room (can't guarantee that for ever stay though!!

I stayed in the 'Grange room' and i would happily stay again, romantic room so good for couples too

Weird

A la carte, Boutique.... neither of these. Menu poor, food poor. Atmosphere poor, service poor ..... funny smell when you walked in, place was empty, needs some TLC. So disappointed from outside the place looks lovely. Would not recommend and will definitely be returning

Very accomodating when I had to cancel for personal reasons

Pennybry on 04/12/2017 14:28

Despite the fact that I had booked rooms on a non-flexible rate at this hotel, when I found myself unable to stay here due to very difficult circumstances, the manager was extremely kind and agreed to cancel my booking for free. it was my error and he was not obliged to do this. I was really grateful though.
