Wonderful building but service mediocre. Desparately needs a new manager.

This old palace has a wonderful setting and on arrival it looks pretty amazing. Our room was very well presented and we found it very comfortable.
However we had two criticisms of the hotel. Most importantly we found the level of service considerably below what we experienced elsewhere in India. The staff were perfectly civil but did not make much effort to be particularly welcoming. We felt there was an absence of good management. For example when we had dinner in the 'Ball Room' a manager stood nearby watching television very loudly on his mobile. It made the ambience more like a sports bar than a dining room.
The grounds also need more attention. They just felt undernourished and dusty. There are a number of large trees in and around the hotel and although they must give shade in the hottest months they made it gloomy in January. They also house large colonies of paraqeets who are noisy and messy!
Grandiose grounds and gardens of Gajner

We stayed here for an overnight stop as part of a package tour and were amazed by the old world charm of this old royal hunting lodge. Conversion of the stables to a hotel resulted in the inclusion of modern amenities like ensuite bathrooms, hot water plumbing and multi-type wall sockets. Unfortunately, no bath gel nor foam was provided, only a hard cake of soap. Some elements of a bygone era were maintained like a side sitting room attached to the main room and ceiling fans. Another downside was the wifi reception limited to the hotel lobby area. We were welcome with a garland, cold cordial drink and hot towel which was refreshing after the long coach ride. The highlight of this accommodation was the grounds itself with fountains and the main building set against a lake. As this place is quite secluded from anywhere else, we happily spent time walking and exploring the gardens, buildings and corridors, both in the evening at sunset before dinner and in the morning at sunrise before breakfast. Food served at the onsite Mirage Restaurant was acceptable but nothing to rave about.
Amazing hotel

We stayed in one of the suites which were amazing. The food was very good and we received fantastic service. We enjoyed a cycle around the grounds using the free bike hire. The views are lovely, wish we could have stayed longer.
A GRAND AFFAIR !!!!

We stopped by the Gajner Palace Hotel for lunch on the way to Jaisalmer from Bikaner. The front office manager happily showed us around the heritage property on our request before taking us to the restaurant. The restaurant is on a pavilion by the lake and commands views of both the lake and the palace itself. The food was delicious and served well. The portions were large and we were satisfied with all the dishes we ordered. The service was efficient too. I strongly recommend stopping over for lunch here if you are driving from Biknaer to Jaisalmer.
