I'm dissappointed for several reason:
-We booked a room with Seaview but we had a roof view with a little bit view over the sea. We had to go on the balcony to have a view. We spoke with the receptionist and with a nice smile she said that it was normal and didn't give me a solution!!!
-The receptionist have a nice smile and very polite but when you have a problem it's like if you speak to a wall! It's not very pleasant when you are in vacation.
-In my room there was a noise from the toilet practically all the night (like a strong whistle) so I couldn't sleep. I have been to the reception and I tell the receptionist the problem. She says she will do something in the day. But she do nothing. If she do something there was no result. So I spend another night with the noise in the room . When the women who clean the room come, she heard the noise and asked somebody to repair it and it was done! (thank you for her job who was well done).
-There was an error for the reservation and the receptionist asked me double price. I was happy to take my booking otherwise I don't know what it will passed. It was in the beginning of my stay, but I had the same problem at the end of my stay. At this time I was really unhappy. The receptionnist never give us excuse!
-There is a good fitness. The courses are during the meals.

We are staying at this hotel at present and they are building all around the hotel. There has been a jack hammer going most of the week between 9am and 6pm so sitting by the pool or in our room is hardly relaxing! We refused to accept the first room we were given as it had a pile of rubble and blocks at the rear of the patio! We were given no notification of the work taking place which is why I am writing this review to warn others to check.
On a positive note the hotel is clean, the staff are usually helpful and the food is excellent.

My wife and I had a great holiday using this hotel as a base to travel by rental car around the island. Good location and great friendly staff. The food, service and facilities were all very good. The resort was maintained in very good order and was exceptionally clean.

A very comfortable hotel with great facilities and nice decor. Indoor and outdoor pools, sauna area, spa, great gym, diving school, tour agent/bike rental and a nice choice of restaurants in the hotel and nearby. Especially liked the salads and sandwiches from the pool bar for lunch. 15mins drive to airport (hotel shuttle and taxis are very affordable) and to Funchal (public bus is super cheap). The rooms are large and clean, comfortable beds, and the extra bed for our daughter was a proper real bed. We slept great all week, sometimes with the balcony doors open - the only noise we could hear was the waves crashing on the cliffs below. Best wifi I've ever used in a hotel.
Our teenagers enjoyed the outdoor activities (hike to Pico Ruivo, horse riding on the levadas, dolphin watching trip) and our 9-year-old loved the indoor pool. Note that it's 1.35m deep which is perfect for adults and older kids, but too deep for very young ones. Outdoor pool has a very shallow paddling area, but it's not heated and feels quite refreshing in winter.
We were visiting white a part of the resort was under construction in winter 2017-2018 and the hotel's own access to ocean was not available. This didn't disrupt our vacation at all and we got a nice discount. We were able to use the neighbouring hotel's services and took a quick dip in the Atlantic, too.

Arrived today at Gala Resort in Madeira, first visit... booked room with seaview; unfortunately in reality our room has view on a building site with 2 towering cranes. We had been told at time of booking that a neighbouring hotel is being renovated but no works between 23/12/2017 -1/1/2018 (however neighbouring would mean next to and not in front of....). It turned out that the neighbouring hotel is in fact..... the same hotel, Gala Resort. Queried at the Front Desk and had been told that we were warned about ongoing renovations...YES WE WERE, BUT we were told that it is the NEIGHBOURING hotel. I still insist that we did not get what we booked. Reception is not committed or motivated to assist. We even asked for, and were willing to pay for an upgrade. I shall review again on any progress.
