What People are saying

Cheap and cheerful but I wouldn't go back

Jay S on 26/10/2017 12:19

Once upon a time I can imagine the Garden Holiday Village was a nice 4 star resort, sadly it seems that much of its shine has been lost and what is left is a rather tired husk of what clearly was a very nice little resort, if you look at the pictures they've listed on various holiday sites.

We chose this resort for our honeymoon as we didn't have a large budget and wanted to go all inclusive so we didn't have to spend a lot whilst we were away. That was our first big mistake. With hindsight, we should have gone self-catering at a more expensive resort, but you live and learn.

What I can say though is that the staff were generally very nice and friendly, helpful where they could be and we didn't have any issues with rudeness or anything like what I've read in some reviews. We did try and speak a little of the language as we do this on all trips as it shows a bit of respect for where you are, even just thank you and hello can go a long way, and I find it rather funny how many people don't even bother to do that.

The room was small, especially since they said we were getting a double bed because of our honeymoon, I can only imagine the rest of the rooms have singles. We could barely get around the bed, and there really wasn't room to do anything other than lay on the bed to be fair. Also our air conditioning smelt of mould, the room stank of stale water the whole week and really wasn't very nice to be honest.

As we were on our honeymoon they gave us a free mini bottle of champagne, the thought was there, but considering you get a free full sized bottle for hiring a Bali bed for €15 I felt it was rather a poor gift, they could of at least offered a free Bali bed for the day, which would have gone a long way, €15 is nothing in the long run, but there you go. They tried, failed, but tried at least.

The food wasn't as bad as people have said, the selection was pretty varied, but to be honest we didn't really enjoy it. We ate out most nights avoid having to eat there, which really negated the need to go all inclusive. The salad bar was nice, the fresh meet was ok, but it was all rather substandard compared to even the most average cafe.

The free alcohol was a bonus, but the drinks during the day were only available from the pool bar, which also had a very strong smell of stale water and clearly wasn't maintained very well. The cocktails all came from a dispenser, which didn't taste too bad from the main indoors bar, but were horrible from the pool bar. As long as you just want a beer or a wine, or a short then you'll be fine, just don't drink the cocktails!

We made use of the one-off free gourmet dining experience, and I think the food was actually worse than the buffet. The steak we were given was clearly a nasty piece of stewing or frying steak which tasted like it had been microwaved, and the potato "puree" was just like overdone mash, it was awful. We regretted every mouthful of that, really don't bother!

We didn't use the pool, but it looked ok.

We didn't get eaten alive by mosquitoes but we also didn't spend much time at the hotel. We hired a car and saw a lot of the island, we went out most nights and basically spent as little time as possible at the hotel, often surprised to hear some guests say they never left the resort, what a wasted opportunity.

If you just want free drinks, a pool, and not a lot of entertainment then, by all means, this is the place for you. It's cheap, it's ok, but it really is nothing special. We had an amazing honeymoon on the island, but not because of this hotel, and when we go back for an anniversary we certainly won't be staying there.

Amazing Suit room 406

tankey21 on 24/10/2017 14:21

we arrived at 3 am Tuesday morning and the lady had spoken to our friend that was staying there as well and said we could have our room as was ready. The hotel was lovely and space to move our room was 406 so had a double balcony with sun loungers and also chairs.
The room was amazing and the big bathroom the bed had nets from the celling down to the floor and the view faced the stage and pool.
The place was quite and not much to do or things close on less wanted to walk 15mins but have to think it was right end of season and you have to expect that.
The food was lovely and lunch was like dinner but end of day loads of places like that and was lovely food.
All the staff were lovely in the hotel and the lady in the morning on reception with glasses was very lovely and kind and ruben on nights as well.
You had some in evening and also the bar with the rum flowing in the day they did a shuttle service to there sister hotel and has free drinks there also and nice by the beach to get out for a couple of hours.
The bar staff was lovely and one we took a shine was fancisco or haw you say my other half called him the whole holiday "Pablo" he had the best smile and always having a good time and funny made the holiday special.
The swimming pool was lovely end of day low season and 30' heat max it was not going to be roasted in there you make your holiday with what you have.
we did the pirates show on the Thursday night it was amazing to go and see.
The hotel also had cats that come up and see you we saw a ginger one black one and tabby they were so cute but just stray ones bless them I can not wait to go back to the hotel thank you to the manager for the welcome and the staff have been

Very Average stay! Please read...

RCReview88 on 22/10/2017 22:21

We are a couple that are used to staying in 5 star all inclusive hotels but this time around were restricted by budget so chose this 4 star hotel in mallorca.

The room was adequate, the staff average along with the food.

If you are a couple or group that don't mind being dictated on time of when you can eat then it will be perfectly suitable for you.

The hotel was clean which was a bonus and the average age there the time we visited was around 55, so again perfect for that quiet relaxing break.

There is however a massive con and you may have guessed it with when you can eat...

Breakfast is served from 7:30 - 9am
Lunch 1pm until 14:30
Dinner 18:30 - 9pm

The issue for us lies in the lunch. If you want to explore your surroundings or have a few hours down the beach you simply cannot do this without having to buy lunch out in the town.

We made this mistake on our first day. We arrived back at the hotel at 14.45 and were told lunch was finished and that the only food available was at the pool bar. Ok, go and have a look you might think so we did. Ham sandwiches and salad sandwiches are the only offerings!!!!

Absolutely unacceptable for me at least, who pays all inclusive to indulge too much and drink way too much. So please think about this before you book as the website for Thomas Cook does not state this important information!

The pool isn't heated and is absolutely freezing!! Noted by many of the guests... definitely go in if you like cold water though.

As entertainment goes you are looking mainly at music quizzes but it was quite a laugh and there's plenty of drink going around so if you must you can drink through the pain.

The how experience isn't anything that's WOW. If you are used to luxury and can afford to i would suggest looking elsewhere.

For a no expectations relaxing holiday with no children then by all means give it a go.

Before I go, on the food note again there is an a le carte restaurant that you are permitted to eat at for 1 night of your holiday. It's a nice break away from the usual buffet food that is served day in day out.

I would go there again

A very pleasant stay for 2 weeks which I would recommend, however, if you expect a high standard on the entertainment side, you will not get it.
Our room was a premium room which was very comfy. The dinning was very good with lots of variety and the hotel was very clean and well kept

Perfect holiday!

Stayed from 5th-19th October.
Saddened that our holiday has to come to an end tomorrow even more saddened by the amount of bad reviews about the place, probably looking to get a bit of money back.
We arrived to lovely staff members at reception and our room was ready on arriving. All the staff we interacted with were amazing, always so pleasant and helpful, especially one of the waitresses in the restaurant, she was extremely friendly and always smiling, she even had our drinks ready before we'd even sat down to eat.
Our room was clean and the perfect size for the two of us, beds made every day and changed every other day. Floors kept clean, bins emptied etc.
The food was nice, there was definitely something new every day and considering we spent two weeks here and didn't get bored of it just goes to show it isn't all that repetitive. One of the reviews said there wasn't any fly zappers when in fact there is. It's a restaurant in Spain near outdoors, of course there's going to be a couple of flies but it was in no means swarming with them.
The pool area is lovely, we spent the majority of our two weeks enjoying the Bali beds (€14 per day) which includes fruit and a bottle of cava but sometimes we changed to a non alcoholic jug which was not a problem at all. Very comfortable.
We stayed in most nights out of personal preference so didn't see much of the entertainment but there was always something on, every night. During the day the staff (Demi & Pablo who are lovely) made an effort to keep people busy whether this was badminton, mini golf, darts etc. We didn't join in but the offer was nice to have.
The surroundings were lovely, we had plenty of things to do we had a boat trip to caves and coves organised by Thomas cook (this wasn't brilliant but it had nothing to do with the hotel) the beach was around 10 minutes walk if that, there's a fairly big spar round the corner (5 min walk) and two restaurants next to the spar too which look nice. We went to the old town which was about 10 mins in a taxi which cost us around 10 euros. There's plenty of shops on Belle vue which is also around 5/10 mins drive.
Yes there are mosquitos but this did not ruin our holiday! I reacted to them, I got bitten 19 times but survived, people who have apparently gone to the hospital have clearly been scratching in order for them to get infected. My partner didn't get bitten either that or had no reaction. This is due to the lagoon the hotel is near. The hotel do their best to try and minimise this, they spray the bushes and provide repellent etc. We sprayed the Bali beds every day they didn't come near us. It was only when I'd been looking around the back of the hotel for the cats I'd been bitten (which by the way do get fed and given water every day) and the odd time by the pool. It all depends on how you react to them. Wasn't a big deal.
All in all, a perfect holiday, just what we needed!
