I've already recommended this hotel to friends travelling to Amsterdam. Why? It's central to everything! It's close to where you board for River Cruises, it's close to the Old Centre where the famous neighborhoods of De Wallen (Red Light District), Dam, Spui and Nieuwmarkt and Old Church are located in the historical center of Amsterdam. It's walking distance to the train station. The canal is right there, and if you want to take a boat tourr you're within walking distance to where you board the boats. It has a Pub, restaurant and LOTS of old world charm. The rooms have very high ceilings and are beautiful with lots of wood and etched glass. It's very charming, lavish and also historical! It was originally where 6 main Shipping Companies had their offices, so it is very gorgeous inside and each room is very well appointed. We plan on staying here the next time we are in Amsterdam.

This place is amazing. It is in as central a location as you can imagine, if you picture Amsterdam as a series of concentric semi circles, this would be the focal point of them all. The staff is incredible, unbelievably friendly and welcoming. When they say 5-Star, they mean it, from the spa to the food to the rooms, you can't do better. The building is in and of itself a tourist attraction, take the time to explore every nook and cranny, there is a never ending supply of cool corridors and staircases. This place is somewhere between Hogwarts and the Grand Budapest Hotel (from the movie) and I loved every second of it. The whole city is walkable and you can walk (or taxi or uber) to any place in the city from here. Simply put, spectacular.

Check in no problem, upgraded our room for â¬15 per night (we arrived very early as our initial room wasn't ready) . Lovely room, much bigger than the one we had on a previous visit.
Returned here as hotel is well located for just about everything - shops, restaurants, bars, centraal station all within a short walking distance. Attractions also within walking distance e.g. Dam Square,
Never used the Wellness Centre however did notice that many of the guests did.
Free mini bar in the room stocked with wines, beers, soft drinks and water at no extra charge is a bonus, restocked daily.
Staff are pleasant and helpful.

A fantastic weekend trip to Amsterdam. The Grand Hotel Amarth is an imposing and impressive site just 5 minutes walk from the main railway station.
After an early flight we arrived at the hotel expecting to just drop our bags and start exploring the city, but too our surprise and after a quick efficient check in we were advised that our room was ready which was a real plus. Room was well appointed with everything you would expect, very clean. No real view but as we were only there for one night it didn't matter. We had booked a table in the hotel restaurant/bar as they had a special 3 course menu offer. When we turned up there was only one other table taken and so a lack of atmosphere. It did take an hour for the starter to arrive as a result of a mess up in the kitchen which was annoying but Bikhaus was highly apologetic and did manage to rescue the situation. The food was excellent and just a shame about the lack of atmosphere.
All in all a good hotel for a quick trip to the city and close to everything you need to see.

The hotel is very central and we were upgraded to a lovely room on checking in, which was very kind. Sadly the room had another, unexpected guest, in the form of a mouse. My wife though she saw him on our second night but I said she had to be seeing things as it is meant to be a five star hotel and she said I was right. Anyhow, the night before we were meant to be going home we saw him sat in the middle of the room and I photographed him under the sofa. I couldn't believe it, I've never seen a rodent in a hotel. We told reception who faked surprise, but the bellman who escorted us to a new room told us it was a big problem and I saw reviews on TripAdvisor from the same week saying the mice are in the hotel so I know the hotel staff are very aware of this. The room we were moved to was a huge suite with no heating on, and all the remote controls missing. It took 3 hours to get it warm, by which stage I just wanted to leave.
I emailed the general manager after leaving but he didn't bother to respond, which tells you they don't care about guests.
The architecture is amazing, the free mini bar and location are great, but it's a vermin infested hotel staffed by people who do not care. If you want to stay somewhere nice try the Waldorf Astoria or Intercontinental Amstel, they're much better and the staff know know how to take care of guests in a rodent free environment.
