Good apartment for two
Philip_Bolster on 07/08/2016 11:57
We stayed here for 3 nights. The apartment is pretty close to the centre. It was difficult to find at night. It was also too small for a family of four. And we could hear the neighbors. But is was clean and the furniture was modern and good in shape.
Great apartment, great location

Loved our apartment at Grettisborg. We were able to cook breakfast and have coffee in the mornings. The location simply couldn't be better. We walked everywhere in town - right in main shopping area and grocery options nearby. Parking was also easy. Perfect!
To little for four

A 5-day trip to Iceland with 2 Kids and appartment no. 2. The appartment is on the ground floor and a bit down. Just in the hallway. Meaning that every time the main door opens you hear it. You get used to it. But combined with the laundry just opposite and noise from above Its too much. For 4 persons the appartment is a bit too small. Especially if a chair is missing around the dinner table and you have to stand up! Otherwise nice surroundings and close to the main shopping street in Reykjavik. Quick service at check in. Needs some cleaning on top of the Electric wiring. And Ikea Kirchens get Worn really Quick.

See screenshot of my Booking.com review Apt.#1 & #2. We paid â¬211/ night for this apartment & got next to no service.
PROS: Good location altho' I would stay on the "other side" closer to the Harbour/ The Pearl/ Micro Brew Bar. This side of town a bit too close to hostels & bars frequented by young, wild "yahoos" . They were kind enough to provide us with a starter grocery kit (eggs, cheese, milk, ham, chocolate, bread) at my request & billed to my credit card (but no receipt provided so I still don't know what it cost me 13 days after I checked out!).
CONS: Lacked towels, 1 pillow only per person, 1/2 roll toilet paper w no backup roll; no Kleenex; no paper towels; no maid service during entire 4 day stay; no follow-up; you're on your own in this place never met the landlord once in 4 days stay!; empty your own garbage bins but they don't give u garbage bags to line the garbage bins once u throw out the 1 liner! Dark, dimly lit below grade-level basement 1bdrm (tiny for a 1bdrm = same size as a standard Westin hotel room). No luggage racks or shelves to put suitcase on. Had to use "living room" futon. Could not have housed 4 people comfortably. You'd be tripping over your suitcases. Light bulb burnt out over breakfast table was never replaced our entire stay. Cleaning ladies barged into our room to clean on our last day while we were out booking our transfer to Blue Lagoon with all our belongings still there & before our official 11am checkout time! Unacceptable! Stray cats tried to get in our open windows (no screens on windows).
Book an AirBnb instead! Our tour group members paid less than half what we did for more supportive "hosts". We're planning a return trip to Iceland to do some activities I didn't have time for & I noticed Grettisborg blacklisted my email address since their property always shows as Sold Out on the 200 property list on Booking.com, no matter what date I enter. Np. I didn't intend on renting there again anyway --- paid high price, no amenities.
Very comfortable week's stay but with not within a noise issue

I was invited to be in Reykjavik for the week as the guest of the Iceland Academy of the Arts. My hosts booked a studio apartment in the Grettisborg Apartments, a short walk to the Academy and 2 blocks fro the main shopping street, an excellent location for anyone wishing not to be in a hotel. My studio apartment had two rooms, the first room entered is a kitchen (with a square table and two chairs) with a bathroom to the right of it, and the second room is a living room (with an L-shaped couch, TV mounted on the wall, desk and chair and twin beds put together European style, a wardrobe and end tables on either side of the bed for clothes.
I spent a very comfortable week in this apartment, which is on the first floor. Sometimes you can hear people coming and going through the front door (studio 1 apartment is to the left of the front door (it is a 3 story apartment building). Unfortunately, there is construction in progress right next to the apartment building and the jack hammers and banging starts at 7:30 a.m. every day. Of course it is not the fault of the owners, there is a building boom happening in Reykjavik. This construction noise continues all day until about 5:00 p.m. Before booking I would check with the owners to see if the construction has been completed. My guess is that it will be in progress for some time. If you plan on getting up at 7:00 or 7:30 a.m. and leaving the apartment for the day, then it should not be an issue. But if you wish to relax in your apartment during the morning (or like to sleep past 7:30 a.m.) the noise will be very, very annoying. One morning I tried to work, and found it impossible to concentrate.
The kitchen is fully outfitted as it is described on the website (have a look). I had read some of the TripAdvisor reviews before arriving (the booking was already made by my host), and some reviewers complained that there was noise from people on the floors above the apartment. I was lucky in this regard during the week I was here, as it appeared there was no one in the apartment above me. Take heed of those reviews as I can imagine listening to people move around above my head, if they are not silent, would be a discomfort.
