Basic airport hotel, but OK

Stayed here a few times for work as hotel rates around Auckland Airport can be a bit hit and miss. Typically stay here because preferred options prices high at times due to room availability.
Anyway, staff nice enough. Offer a shuttle bus to/from airport which I used for the first time and was good.
Room is clean and spacious but (separate) bedroom gets hot and stuffy. Only aircon in lounge area. Shower is over bath tub in bathroom. You can often hear people talking in room above or below. This time didnât get a good sleep as the wind was making flashing (or something) rattle all night. Told them on checkout, so hopefully they get it fixed.
Brilliant service and nice comfortable room - just what you need for a 4.00am arrival!

Flight delayed by 6 hours in Fiji, so ended up with unexpected arrival at 4.00am in Auckland Airport, totally exhausted and in need of a sleep-out. After three unsuccessful attempts to get a room in the area, I ended up at the Heartland Hotel. I was received with a friendly smile by the night manager, who offered me a room at a reasonable half-day rate for six-hours. The room was very comfortable and spacious, with a jacusi bath in the well appointed bathroom and a working desk, coffee and tea facilities and a fridge. This is just what the doctor ordered and next time I need a place to stay at Auckland Airport, this will be my hotel of choice. The only issue - I just couldn't get the free Wifi to work upon waking-up, but I am sure if I had stay there longer this would have been resolved with a call to the front desk.
Simple clean overnight transit stay

Nice facility 10 minute free shuttle ride from airport in industrial park and good for overnight stay. Staff were very good. Basic on site restaurant / bar helped. Price was typical of airport high tariffs. Would classify max 3.5 star based on efficient service, definitely not 4 as advertised. Would still use again but only for one night and not out of our pocket.
Disappointing

The Heartland Hotel is located a fair way from the airport so we were grateful for the shuttle service it offers. When you get to the arrivals hall you dial 31 on the Freephone provided then exit via door 11 next to McDonald's at the end of the arrivals hall. Our room was reasonably spacious with a fridge but the pillows were yellowy and smelly so I had to lay towels on them before trying to sleep. The bed sheets were creased as if they'd been on the bed a while or as if they'd already been used. The previous guest's personal details were left on the bed - a completed satisfaction questionnaire with his name and address on. If it had not been 2am and had we not been so exhausted after a long journey, we would have gone straight back to reception to demand a change of room.
The bathroom was clean but the bathmat was spotted with black mould. There were no curtains nor blind up at the bathroom window and it was on the ground floor so showering with the light on at night was not an option as the "fogged" glass would not give adequate privacy. When daylight came and I braved the shower the water flow was so feeble through the 9 holes in the shower head it was hardly worth the effort. There was no safe in the room so valuables + passports had to be taken down to breakfast with us for safety.
Buffet breakfast was very average and some of the staff seemed not to care at all and announced they would be taking food away 15 minutes before the advertised closing time even though guests were still coming into the restaurant. I found the tea undrinkable as it tasted as though it had been stored in a flask for several hours so I ordered an espresso and was told that would be an extra charge of $4.
The hotel has a small swimming pool with a strange location in the middle of a mini roundabout at the front entrance of the hotel - not my idea of relaxation either before or after a flight! We will definitely not be staying at this hotel again.
Great staff

My stay at the Heartland Hotel was unexpected due to Jester cancelling my flight at the last minute. We were picked up by the hotel mini van and taken to the hotel at Jetstats expense. In every interaction with staff from pick up, check in, room service, breakfast, check out and then airport drop off the staff were the friendliest and most accommodating I have ever experienced at any hotel in the world. Amelia and the breakfast matrodie were lovely and Jennifer the shuttle driver was do friendly and helpful. What a great introduction to NZ hospitality these staff are giving tourists to our beautiful country. This company should be very proud of their staff and the service they provide. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
