Oasis in Nairobi

Spent a lovely night here recovering from a long overseas fight. The room was spacious and well appointed. The hotel is in a quiet district on a park like property. The staff are welcoming and gracious. Dinner under the stars was so relaxing. There was an issue with how my steak was grilled and the kitchen dealt with it immediately and brought me an alternative. I would be happy to return and highly recommend this hotel.

What a way to spend Xmas with family away from home at hemmingways. Thr food and service was absolutely top class. What I love about Hemingways is the ambience, it's such a beautiful place and setting and the staff are so attentive and well trained - Shout out to Matthias our server. Highly recommend this for lunch/dinner. My favorite place in Nairobi

We were here for one day/night (wish it was longer!). Excellent service, beautiful grounds, and wonderful room. We stayed in the Churchill suite which was beautiful with a sweeping walkout balcony and view of the rooms. Colonial plantation style architecture and design theme which is extremely attractive. The staff tries their best to go above and beyond to accommodate your needs. We will definitely be coming back here!
Ideal choice to recover from a long haul flight

We stayed 2 nights after arriving in the evening from London with our 8 yr old daughter on our way to a safari in the Rift Valley. Traffic is terrible in Nairobi, but this location worked well being about 30 mins from both the International airport and Wilson airport for the safari planes.
In addition to transport connections, the hotel is close to the giraffe manor sanctuary, the Sheldrick elephant orphanage and Karen Blixenâs house. Without much effort we were able to get up late, visit these wonderfully interesting places, have an afternoon nap in between and get an an excellent early supper in the restaurant.
The hotel is what you expect from the photos - a high-end corporate grade hotel probably used to hosting business meetings and the weddings of the Nairobi wealthy. Everything works as it should the quality of service and infrastructure meets international standards, which I am learning as I write this at the end of this adventure, is a rare quality in Kenya!
The hotel is modern but constructed and decorated in a colonial style with the guest wing trailing down the valley. We had a large room titled the Sheldrick Suite. My guess is that each room has its own theme, ours for the founder of the elephant sanctuary. I suspect that there are bigger and smaller rooms but this is average. Big well equipped bath room, spacious room, large balcony with a view across the gardens. Large and comfortable bed, a modern 4 poster in the colonial style with mosquito netting and a comfortable sofa, work desk etc.
The TV was housed in a faux travel trunk. I only mention this because the rising tv cabinets always look so cheesy but this was nicely finished and looked in place.
All round, this was a great recommendation by Scott Dunn, our travel agent on this trip. One failure by the hotel was the a/c which did not work. They came to fix it but didnât. We just left the window open which is generally a Malaria and security risk I wont take in Africa but it seemed safe there.
A slice of history

Hemingwayâs is located on the former coffee plantation fields of the former home of Karen Blixen and next to the Karen Blixen Museum. You can look
out over the Ngong hills just as Karen did, and charmingly the executive suite is named after her, and the room
next door after Dennis Finch Hatton, her lover. If you are an Out of Africa fan, or read Hemingwayâs novels you will love the ethos of the hotel. You are taken back to the time of the Great White Hunter, small two seater aeroplanes, love affairs and an undiscovered Africa. Each room of the hotel is unique in its decor and theme, with the most expensive and luxurious one being the Hemingway suite.
The hotel has a royal view looking down the hillside onto luscious and exotic gardens. Each room has a large balcony with plush chairs for the guests to enjoy their view in private. There is also a beautiful lounge and entrance area, and we enjoyed sitting outside in front of the pool area for our breakfast.
The hotel offers a lot of nice treatments in the Spa, and the pool, spa steam
room and sauna are included for guests.
We enjoyed a dinner one night in the downstairs restaurant and I was impressed by the wine selection and the lobster I chose.
The hotel is amazingly well located as it is a stones throw away from the Giraffe sanctuary and the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
Hemingways is also close to the Utamaduni shopping centre that provides all nature of high end local goods and crafts, and the new Karen shopping centre, the Hub where you can easily spend a day browsing. For nightlife the famous Talisman restaurant and bar is nearby and the Carnivore Restaurant, where all manner of game meat is on the menu.
Hemingways is the ideal stop over for a family on its way through Nairobi to a safari or as a destination in itself. I really enjoyed the area with itâs quiet streets and clean lush surroundings. You can also avoid downtown by getting the by pass from
the airport straight to the hotel, via the game park and what a wonderful way to start a holiday. I canât recommend this hotel enough ! And thatâs not to mention the amazing staff who make you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive.
