How to ruin a romantic weekend!

It looked promising, but once arrived it quickly became obvious that something was badly wrong with this hotel. The so-called lobby was dirty and cold. The receptionist friendly, but not hearty. The indicated room did not meet our expectations. We could change room on condition that we paid an additional charge, what we did. This upgraded room was cold and not clean and I have never seen windows more dirty in my whole life. The spa area was only accessible when wearing a bathrobe, not available in the room, but of course for rent for 5 euro each. The television was not working and during the weekend no technical staff at our disposal either. Wonder what would happen in case of emergency or major electricity problems. My wife got an urgent e-mail that she had to reply on. In our room, no wifi. In the lobby, no wifi. According to the receptionist it had all to do with her computer settings, though it was the first time this problem occurred. A friendly colleague of him helped her out by connecting her laptop with a cable, admitting there was indeed a huge internet and television connection problem.
Restaurant staff (booking was made dinner included) was friendly, but not Flemish/Dutch spoken. This is not a problem to me, but I heard people doing their utmost to order, but in vain. The hallway to the restaurant was dark, filthy, humid and bicycles were everywhere against the wall.
Strange that this 'hotel' has four stars.
Worst hotel experience ever

â¬120 for 1 night in a 4 star hotel and you get the following:
- a messy reception area, with leaves and bugs all over the place
- a room that is beneath the roof without airconditioning. When you touch the air-condition the electricity shuts down
- a filthy room with stains on the carpet, leather chairs that are broken, stains on the wall and ceiling, mold in the bathroom, bugs crawling all over the place, busted walls and doors, soap wasn't refilled, a bed where you can feel the metal springs in your back during your sleep, sticky floors in the bathroom and toilet, a lot of mosquitos during summer because you have to leave the windows open (it's really bad)
- when you get a good look at your hotel chamber you just wanna leave and go back home because it really messes up your vacation vibe
- when we told the staff that our electricity was shut down, it took them 30 min to turn it back on, really bad service
- there is a spa in the cellar but for our own good we didn't use it, because it was really nasty and dirty
- really nice location and building from the outside, really getto on the inside.
- DO NOT BOOK HERE, do yourself a favor and book somewhere else
Conclusion 1/10 worst value for money ever
How to kill the goose that layd the golden egg...

The hotel was previously an ancient hospice that felt into ruins and has been partially renovated in the nineties.
It is located in a very small village, near to the border of Belgium and The Netherlands and allows to discover the beautiful region of the "Meetjesland".
We spend a week-end at "Het Godshuis" 3 years ago. As we enjoyed it that time, we booked again in March and felt quite disappointed...
The staff is polite and professional, the rooms are neat and clean (even though the moisture takes off the paintings here and there), the "brasserie-style" meals are good, but... the prices charged by the restaurant really are prohibitive, probably because there is little or no competition in the immediate vicinity of the hotel!
In conclusion, we have the bitter impression that because bookings usually are one-shots, the hotel's goal is to charge a maximum in a minimum of time.
We felt trapped by the prices charged by the restaurant and were very disappointed, compared to our first visit.
We will not return.
Very nice Grounds and Building not the best beds and service

Stayed here for two nights. They've done some great restoration however, the bed quality is still very much lacking and the service in the bar and the restaurant is lacking. When I checked out they were quite unorganized and charged me again after leaving as they didn't have everything on one bill. I also accidentally left a electronic behind in my room. I called within hours after check out and they said they could not find it. A $500 loss.

A fantastic but quirky hotel. The reception staff were brilliant and nothing was too much for them. It's not far at all from Bruges in a car.
I went with my wife and 2 teenage children and not one complaint.
