This is a nice hotel with comfortable beds, but. . . for the price they charge for a room I expected them to do a better job with some of the amenities. We were excited to learn they had a outdoor whirl pool with a steam room and dry sauna inside. Our excitement was cooled off - - - literally. We started in the whirl pool, which was lukewarm at best (not very relaxing). We went inside to the dry sauna but left after it failed to heat up (plus it had a weird odor). Our last stop was the steam room, which did heat up slightly but not to the point where it truly relaxed one's body. We retired to our room which contained a bathtub. I opted for the bath but could not find any bath crystals or bubble bath to enhance soaking in the tub. The hotel was not bashful about charging a steep price for their rooms, I just wish they delivered the level of service worthy of the steep price.

The rooms are spacious and modern. The bar staff was attentive and friendly.
However, the restaurant has a very limited menu, and service was horrible. It took 20 minutes to get our orders placed, and more than an hour to be served...and some food was served cold!
Donât eat there!

Hilton Lake Taupo has some of the most elegant rooms in Taupo area. The room we were assigned during this trip was modern, clean, and spacious (our room on a visit here 3-4 years ago was equally impressive). The bathroom was very modern and well appointed. The bed was large with good bedding, although the bed itself was a bit lumpy (just noticeably). The area is quiet (set back from the main road) and front desk staff were pleasant. Internet was excellent. I measured 52mbps down and 86mbps up using wifi when the hotel was busy (school holiday).
Be aware that Hilton Taupo is a kilometre or so from the lake (Taupo has several lakeside hotels and apartments if you prefer that location.) Also, the pool was too cool for our preferences in winter. We had hoped the pool was thermally heated to at least lukewarm -- some other hotels in Taupo and Rotorua have moderately warm outdoor pools in winter. DeBretts hot springs is next door, so that offers a solution.

On my way from Auckland to Wellington I booked a room at The Hilton mera Lake Taupo. It was supposed to be a quick stayover. Once I was there I instantly regretted myself. Friendly staff, great foods, gym, pool, bikes and many other great things were on offer.
I had the ground floor King bed room with a small private patio outside with s table and two chairs.
The Lake Taupo area itself is full of activities. I went to the lake and enjoyed the scenery. I also took a drive to nearby Huka falls and went for a morning walk by the Craters of the Moon (geothermal area).
Many things to do and see around Lake Taupo, so do not make it a pit stop.
The hotel restaurants breakfast was superb. I travel a lot for work, but the scrambled eggs at Taupo were by far the creamiest and best that I have ever had. not to mention the crazy pancakes :-)

Lovely hotel but I didn't realise how far this was from town which is a bit inconvenient. Rooms lovely and very comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant one night and had great food and service
