I was leading a group of youngsters 26 paxs from Hong Kong and stayed at the hotel. The hotel facilities are very basic but essential. The breakfast was good. And the staff was friendly and very helpful. With the price we were paying, the hotel was a worthwhile to stay.

A good hotel with a sound international standard, nice rooms, good breakfast and efficient check-in.
Absolutely fine, but not special.
Very central location. Will be back next time.
Airport pick-up not perfect, we waited 15 min inside at -5 (outside -29), driver was delayed ...

I stayed for the first time in this hotel. The check in experience already started badly. The Guy, who took a while to look at me (I was the only one since it was 6:00am), informs me that they do not have any non smoking room available as on my reservation. Since I told him I would not stay on a smoking room, he disappears (he went to talk with his superior). Eventually he comes back and tells me he will give me a junior suit. After giving him my Amex he asked me if I was planning to have extras during my 3 day stay (??!!!), I said "yes" and he asked me to tell him how much I would spend on extras. I said "I don't know". He insisted twice again and finally asked me if it would be more than whatever amount in the local currency. I stopped him asking to make a deposit of whatever reasonable amount since I did not know the Kazakh Currency, plus I was exhausted after an overnight flight.
The room: Smelly, needing urgent renovation and NO HEATING (it is December!!!!).
Same day I told the reception that heating was not working and it was freezing in the room. When I came back they told me it was fixed. I go upstairs and IT IS NOT! Still freezing and smelly.
Finally after 2 freezing nights I told the hotel I wanted another room with heating and it was only the nice Diana who finally was sympathetic and took care. I was moved to another room, smelly but heated
Breakfast buffet is not good, however the restaurant food for lunch and dinner is.
I do not recommend at all this hotel, as you can tell after reading my review, it was everything but pleasant!

After almost 30 hours of flying it was very comforting to see the smiling and welcoming staff of Holiday Inn Almaty. They allowed us to check-in early which we desperately needed. :-) Our standard double bed room was comfortable with a nice city view. The hotel has everything; gym, restaurant, and a great location. Breakfast buffet was nice with variety of options. If you book with miles then breakfast is not included. Breakfast costs $13 which might be on the higher side for Almaty, but just to avoid the hassle of ordering a cab and searching good breakfast places, it's worth paying $13 for the yummy breakfast buffet. The hotel is located right by the Republic Square, a great place for an evening stroll or a morning jog. The Kazakh State Museum is located within walking distance as well. The hotel staff speaks English and is very helpful with any issues or questions. I would definitely stay at Holiday Inn Almaty again.

I traveled to Kazakhstan ( Almaty) from Calgary, Canada last month, I was not sure where to stay but noticed a Holiday Inn when I was searching. I was quite surprised when I arrived . the hotel was clean , in a good location , the staff was friendly and helpful and the rates were priced right, and they had a Great breakfast buffet .
