We arrived at the hotel on the 8th feb and was greeted by a lovely lady on reception at around 4:30pm (didnât get name). Checked in very quickly with no hassle room was very nice with a great view over the city. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which my wife loved and my fish and chips where ok. Breakfast was included on both nights. We found it to be very well stocked and really tasty. Again staff very polite and friendly and offered great advice on travelling into city centre. Check out was equally as easy this time a gentleman on reception. Again very polite and efficient will be sure to stay again when in area

We spent 3 very comfortable nights here on a short visit to see family. This is a long established hotel in a slightly dated looking (early 1970s?) building, but it remains fresh and well maintained throughout and I was very pleasantly impressed. Its main attraction is its handy location, just outside the city centre and on one of the main routes into and out of the city with really excellent public bus access to all of Edinburgh's main attractions. There were plenty of free parking spaces with good access directly into reception and the staff were professional and courteous throughout. Rooms are well sized and well furnished and those above the 3rd floor have good views across South East Edinburgh. The bathroom was a little cramped and the shower in the bath was quite difficult to get into and out of safely, not least because one end of the bath (the bit you stepped into) was sloped and potentially slippy. Our visit saw two nights of very strong winds and although you could definitely hear the gusts in our windward facing window, it successfully repelled and silenced the draughts! I was a little worried about the possibility of small falling branches in the car park overnight and parked as far from the many mature trees as I could. Wifi coverage (by BT) was very good. In all this was a very successful visit and we will stay at this hotel again.

A just love this hotel . Stuffs are very helpful and friendly. Grass market is nearby , like 10 mins walking and in the way to grass market from the hotel you will get many restaurants and if you are Muslim and looking for gala restaurants you will get them on the way to grass market aswell . There are some book stores in the way to grass market aswell and I just love their collection . Edinburgh castle is 15/20 mins walking distance.i just love the small lobby of this hotel .they have some games facilities in lobby , specially for kids . They have a lovely indoor swimming pool with hot water .foods in the restaurant are yummy specially I love their fish and chips . I will advice tourist if you want to stay in the middle of the Edinburgh city then itâs a nice place to stay everything is near by .

Booked hotel via Holiday Inn website and signed up to awards scheme, was able to enter room before 1pm which was great, sixth floor (top floor) had double beds with sofa bed all facing the Edinburgh Castle and Firth of Forth views (the bedrooms facing the other way on the sixth floor seemed to be the more expensive bedroom suites- no idea what view they have). Great place to park for free while staying there, bus stop across road (£1.60 single) on buses 41 & 43 takes you to the city centre in around 15 minutes (beats expensive parking in the city). Breakfast was a variety of cereals, cold hams and other food, hot breakfast including eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans etc and scrumptious haggis (which you have to try), juices and hot drinks, sufficient for myself that likes to also make toast. Last but not least, the staff are really friendly and helpful.

The hotel restaurant was closed because the hotel was "short of staff"(!) Food was available in the bar, but they had run out of empty tables so people were turning away. There are no restaurant choices nearby, so I suspect that the hotel knows that they have a captive audience, and are happy to take advantage of that.
I managed to get a table in the bar, but it was right by the front door and it was freezing cold. Some other diners were wearing their coats(!)
I was told that there was no English mustard to go with my mixed grill. The food was cold and the steak was raw.
I complained about the low temperature in the bar, and the duty manager offered to move me to another table in a warmer area. I agreed, only to discover that somebody was already sitting at the table and the plan was that to move them so that I could have the table. I refused the offer, and opted to have room service instead (which they provided for free by way of compensation).
To add insult to injury it arrived with some sachets of English mustard (despite that apparently being unavailable in the bar)!
The room: I was told that lower floors' rooms have refurbished rooms, but there are currently some noisy student guests down there, so I was put in a very dated 5th floor room.
Probably the worst hotel experience that I have had in the last ten years. Not what I wanted after a very long day at work.
