We booked this hotel same day as we should stay so that perhaps explains the price, but it is not worth â¬162 for a night,
The staff was friendly and location is good in the middle of the city. We came with car so an extra fee of â¬16 was added for one night.
Clean room and comfortable bed. I would usually rate the hotel to 3, but the high price makes it 2 only,

stayed for 2 nights on a business trip to Mechelen.
Location is great, quite and peaceful, but 3 minutes walking to the center and all major attractions.
breakfast is good with large verity of pastry, fruits, vegetables, and meats. great start for the day.
room is very basic but has everything I needed. relatively large selection of English channels.
don't expect any view, but they do offer a choice of pillows (2 options - hard or soft).

The hotel is pleasant enough but is very basic. The rooms are a good size and fairly well lit. The double bed is a little on the small size but you also get a sofa. However the rooms are very basic which I guess is why this is an 'express' type of Holiday Inn and not a fully fledged one.
The overall decor is a little dated and could do with a refresh.
Whilst breakfast is reasonable however you do not get the variety of cooked food that other hotels have. Its just a basic waffle maker, some bacon and some scrambled egg (which isn't very pleasant and I suspect is powdered egg). The bread is always fresh and there are cheeses and hams etc...
There is no restaurant - which isn't a problem at all as Mechelen has many very excellent restaurants and being a small city they are all within walking distance of the hotel.
The bathroom is basic with a pretty basic shower soap dispenser - no nice little individual bottles.
In summary, nothing special and not as good as other hotels but pleasant and adequate.

The hotel is so nice! Modern decor and very clean everywhere. Very friendly reception staff.
Buffet style breakfast had everything you need.
The hotel is about 15 minute walk from the train station where you can get a train to lots of different places.
I would highly recommend this hotel. The town of Mechelen is so pretty and has a relaxed friendly atmosphere!

We stayed here for one night in a double room. We liked the location: easy walking distance to the city center and all restaurants. The hotel itself looked nice and modern. The room was spacious. However, the double bed was narrow; our bed at home is 160cm, this bed was 140cm or less. Quite disappointing for a hotel, especially given the large size of the room. The breakfast area was very busy, there were not enough tables. Breakfast itself was OK, but nothing special. Especially the lack of type of egg other than boiled egg was a disappointment. You had to boil the eggs yourself, by putting them in a 'holder' and in a pot of boiling water. However, all the holders were exactly the same, so no way to tell which one was yours (and hence: if it was done). Also, other hotel guests who maybe did not understand the system (or they did...) took other people's eggs.
