Stayed in a quadruple room with group of friends...others were further down corridor and sharing a bathroom. Location was ideal for nightlife and everything else really. Staff were friendly. Rooms clean. Excellent value. Great for group trips in which you don't mind shared facilities.
Very rude staff, very noisy, stay elsewhere

Due to location attracts party types who are noisy all through the night and smoke in their rooms. Both rooms either side of me with unrelated parties were yelling, screaming and singing all through both nights I stayed, despite complaining to staff. I deliberately stayed in a smoke free hotel due to asthma but there were people smoking in the rooms and the check in area. One staff member who was at the breakfast was incredibly Rude, seemed like he had some sort of mental health problems with the way he was carrying on. I'd only stay here if you are a party person who wants to be up all night.
Great place to stay

I have stayed at a few different hotels on the Redlight, but this was the first one I could smoke in and that made a big difference for me. I stayed on the second floor up some quite steep stairs (Most are steep in this beautiful city). My friend and I had a twin room, that was spacious and airy. We were at the back, so peaceful and relaxing. Memory foam mattresses and pillows, so comfy.
The breakfast was a standard continental, just the job to set you up for the day. We shared a bathroom and shower, but never bumped into anyone else using them, so was like our own.
The host was helpful and friendly.
My only complaint was that there was only one plug socket and this was quite high up on the wall, we had to place 2 small suitcases on top of each other so we could plug in the travel kettle.
The area is great, full of life and character, with coffee shops, bars, restaurants, shops and smoking cafes all within easy reach. A central place from which to explore the city. Only a few minutes from Centraal Station.
I have booked this hotel for a return journey when I come back on my own in July. It's not the Ritz, but it is clean, comfortable and local.
Gem in the red light district

10 of us girls stayed at hotel 83 this weekend and it was a delight!
I didn't know what to expect when a hostel on the red light district was booked but it was a pleasantly nice hotel!
We were put into separate rooms, a 6 bed and a 4 bedroom. I stayed in the 4 bedroom which was lovely. The rooms were spacious and clean. This was located on the second floor, no lift and steep stairs so make sure you pack light
It was a little noisy at night but what do you expect from being on the most popular street in Amsterdam (I personally slept through it)
Short walk to train station, bulldog cafe and the main central district
Reception staff were very friendly and kind. Would highly recommend! Thank you
Basic but perfect for a lively location

Getting to the hotel from the airport was easy. We bought tickets from the yellow ticket machines in the airport for 5 euros 20, (card or coins only), took escalator down to platform 2, train arrived within 2 minutes (they run about every 10 minutes) arrived at Amsterdam central in about 10 minutes. From the train station it's about a10 minute walk, very easy to find it's just after you cross the 2nd canal bridge, Google map will find it for you!
Upon arrival there are very steep steps up to the hotel which wasn't a problem for us but could be a challenge for some with heavy cases. The staff were great, they let us check in 3 hours early as our room was ready, very good sense of humor too!
Getting to our room was a challenge with a very steep staircase to tackle! Again not too much of a problem for us, and a lot of the buildings in Amsterdam are the same due to them being very narrow but tall.
We arrived to our room which was very clean. Very clean linen, towels and generally clean. Very basic, no tv, kettle ECT but it's a budget hotel, and let's face it, you don't go to Amsterdam to sit in your room watching tv, drinking tea!! Towels were changed daily.
At night the room was very noisy due to location, but we were out late ourselves so again not a problem for us.
The hotel is located within the red light area and is amongst the bars, coffee shops, erotic shops, theatres, souvenirs shops, take aways and restaurant's. It is easy walking distance to the shopping area ( high street) and Anne Frank house's the canal cruises are also within walking distance to get on board.
Breakfast was better than expected but only served from 8-9. Staff were more than happy to keep the coffee flowing! Orange juice, tea, coffee, muesli, cornflakes, toast with jam, peanut butter or chocolate spread, scrambled eggs, cold meat and cheese available.
Check out was easy and we were able to leave our luggage for the rest of the day once we checked out.
The hotel have a lovely cat who does like to sleep on the reception desk and is around during breakfast, so if you are allergic to cats it could be an issue!
Overall very good value for money considering the price, and location. It's not the Ritz but it's very comfortable, clean and in a perfect location if you want a lively atmosphere. Couldn't fault it and would stay there again.
