Regressive policies

The poor rating is not for the room, but for the hotel's regressive and hopelessly outdated mentality.
A basic principle of the service industry is to respect and trust your customers, not make them feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. When my wife and I checked in, the front desk staff peppered us with questions about how long we had been married, why my wife didn't have my first name in her Aadhar card, etc. They also wanted to see a marriage photo as proof (this was never communicated to us after the online booking) and insisted on lecturing us that "every married couple will have a marriage photo". While we had all the required documents, this kind of moral lecturing, that too in front of the other hotel staff, left us both feeling humiliated and irritated.
In case the hotel management is wondering what is wrong with having such policies, let me spell it out for them:
1. Asking for proof despite the customer's insistence demonstrates basic lack of trust in the customer and is embarrassing to the people involved, especially because you are not discreet and are demanding this proof in front of others.
2. If proof of marriage is such an important pre condition, you need to mail or message the customer before accepting their money on the online booking.
3. I have stayed in five star as well as budget hotels, and believe me, this suspicious and narrow-minded attitude reflects on the hotel's own reputation and the kind of customers who normally frequent your establishment.
4. Yes, every married couple will have photos of their wedding day. But WHY should I show the photos to complete strangers, just to avoid being humiliated?
5. Finally, if you are so concerned about your pious image, please find a better location rather than in the midst of wine shops and bars (in the same building).
As mentioned before, though we are a genuinely married couple, I can understand the trauma others must have faced at the hands of these "guardians of morality". I can only request the management to see the error of their ways and move with the times.
Hotel Aashis Deluxe, Kolhapur

Went to this place after many years. Booking was done through a local person. For a AC room. Access to the hotel is bit cramped. But found surprisingly well maintained for the value. The room was on third floor. Good clean lobby. Room too was good. Clean. All basic amenities in place. Only issue is close proximity of railway station. Sliding windows have no seal to block railway horns, through out. Room service is fair. Get the food from out. Not a very good choice, but not bad either..
Very rude staff

Official trip. Talked to two guys at the reception who were completely whacked out. Had no manners and were justifying their rage on the premise that the staff were overworked.
The room was good and the food was terrible (although in their defence they were sourcing it from outside)
Average and Cheap Place

I had a spontaneous road trip to Kolhapur from Pune with no advance planning with my parents and 2 sisters. We reached Kolhapur in the evening and had darshan of Kolhapur Devi and dinner at Dehati Restaurant. By the time we were done it was already close to 12 midnight and we needed a place to crash.
Thanks to TripAdvisor, we got the address to Hotel Aashish. The place is OK but plz opt for Deluxe rooms as the name of the hotel itself suggests. Its in a gully (alley) and the reception area is good but the rooms are not that excellent. But for the price you pay, they are good and cheap places to crash especially if you plan to stay for only 6 to 8 hours, freshen up in the morning and leave. Also they don't have their own parking so you have to park your car in paid parking area.
Near to bus station and budget hotel

The cheap rooms are very dirty and small. Please don't opt for them instead go for delux rooms. They have common parking which you get based on luck else need to park on the main road with parking charge.Although facilities are there nearby but this hotel is not suitable for family's with kids.
