the hotel was great located only 2 blocks away from the convention center. The breakfast was fresh and the staff working the front desk were kind and answered all questions and offered there services at all times

We stayed at this small hotel while touring San Antonio. Location was excellent for the downtown river walk and airport. Noisy because you are right beside the freeway but extremely easy to travel because your right beside a freeway. We walked the 600 feet to the riverwalk withoutvany issues and once we were oriented to the place we were very pleased with the price and location of this hotel
Great Staff

Staff was great.. location is right off the freeway so pretty convenient to interstate and to downtown. Hot water was scalding in the evening but could not get hot in the morning. Odd.. but besides that visit was good..
A lovely little gem of a hotel

We were attending an event at the Alamodome and wanted a place within easy walking distance. We stayed at the Sunset Suites and were extremely pleased with our stay. The lobby is a little hard to access because you enter off a rather busy street, but once in the lobby it is spacious and decorated with nice touches. I am partial to mission-style furniture and the lobby is done in mission-style, with many art deco touches. The room is also furnished in mission-style furniture. The decorating is very unique - it is certainly not "cookie-cutter". The area immediately around the hotel is very interesting - the neighborhood is in transition and has lots of charm. Just steps from the Sunset Suites is a lovely stone and brick church built in 1884 that was the former home of the St. Paul CME Church -- the first African-American church in San Antonio.
You can do better

The location itself is pretty much its main redeeming quality. It isn't a far walk to the Riverwalk. However, there were several problems... First, there is almost no light in the rooms. In order to put on makeup, or even read something, you need to go into the bathroom. If someone is using the bathroom, you are out of luck. The two lamps are relatively useless, and there is no overhead lighting whatsoever. Second, I understand that we were there on a busy weekend- New Years, but a hotel shouldn't have problems with hot water. We were there with another family, and they had the same problem. One morning, only one of us (there were 3 in our room) had hot water. After the second person took a two minute shower due to the lack of hot water, the third person chose to wait until later in the day. I don't feel that should ever be an issue in a hotel, and it happened repeatedly. Third, the two large bed frames have curves in the top that stick out toward each other, making a narrow space between the two beds even more narrow. Both my husband and I hit the frame with our thigh/hip more than once. In the middle of the night, when it's pitch black, it's almost dangerous. My friend in the other room did the same thing. He crashed into one of the frames during the night and almost fell over with pain. I personally left with huge bruises on each leg. Finally, parking was an issue. The hotel does have its own parking lot. However, at busy times, there isn't enough parking. One day, we came back to the hotel, and there were no spots. We asked the person at the desk what we were supposed to do. She said they had a lot a few blocks away and that someone would show us where to go and drive us back to the hotel. We had two cars full, so the hotel worker could only drive some of us. The others had to walk back. The next morning, when we were going out for the day, we had to get a ride back out to the other lot. If I am being charged a nightly parking fee, I feel there needs to be parking. If it weren't for the location, I wouldn't even consider this hotel. I am sure there are better options.
