Only stay for the location

The hotel is in a really great spot making it easy to see all the important sites in Mumbai. You can easily walk around (if you can manage to cross the roads and donât mind lots of people) and see some amazing historical buildings.
Lots of cafes and restaurants in the area and the restaurant Papaya outside does really good food.
The actual hotel itself is nothing much, the rooms are really very tired and dated and not worth the price tag. If you really have to stay here shop around a bit and find a good deal as I donât think it is worth more than 4000 Rupees a night to be honest.
Management would benefit from doing a full refurb of the rooms as they desperately need modernising.
Best location and nice hotel with good food!

I stayed there for 1 night and Room was small but decent. Breakfast buffet was small but nice for a 2 star category hotel. Social Colaba, Leopold, Mondegar and other popular cafes and bars are just around within a distance of 100-200 meters. Overall, a nice hotel with very good location and food wonât disappoint you.
âMold in Roomsâ

Worst place to stay. We booked for 3 nights. When we arrived they put us in a room with mold on walls and ceiling. We asked them to move us and they told us they had no rooms when we insisted they told us they will try to find us another room. After a bit they found us another room but it was an older room and the WiFi didnât work. We had some work to do so the WiFi was necessary. Later, they found us a third room but the WiFi still didnât work. The next day when we returned to the hotel around 8pm they told us we are staying next to the banquet room and that there would be a party going on and asked us if we wanted to move but we were too tired and since party would end soon, we declined. Our last night we returned back to hotel at 9pm and they told us there was another party and it would end at 1am we also decline to move but this time it was a loud party with DJ and band. It was unbearable we couldnât hear our selves talk. We asked to check out early but they were so rude and said that there was no option for that. We argued for a bit but to no avail. So we booked another hotel and checked out at 11:30pm. Also the breakfast was bad and one of us got sick from eating it on the first day. Rooms are outdated and not cleaned. Bedsheets and pillow cases had stains on them. We had to buy our own sheets to put over theirs. All in all âOne Of The Worst Hotelsâ Iâve stayed at. Even for India standards. You can stay around the corner for about the same price and itâs moderately better. Simply put itâs a bad place and bad management.
Average, except for staff attitude - which was very positive

The Diplomat seems to be an example of the sort of independent hotel that is dying out in India, overwhelmed by the slickness of more competitive chains. It's showing its age - tatty carpets, peeling paintwork, scuffed marble - with fittings and fixtures often not matching. Its very convenient location, just behind the Taj, opposite the Taj's Starbucks, close to the Gateway of India and a block from Colaba Causeway, means that it's a prett good deal despite its physical imperfections. Don't be unduly put off by the low ratings. The Diplomat's strength is the positive and helpful attitude of its staff, both reception, door and porters (of whom there seems to be a great many, certainly more than it really needs. It also has more or less reliable wifi, a decent complimentary breakfast and hot water that at least starts strong. So if you want to pay more than double for the opulence of the place next door, go for it. But the Diplomat is perfectly adequate, and its staff's helpfulness more than compensates for the unfortunate slightly down-at-heel impression it projects. I arrived on New Year's Eve, when the entire area was noisy, and was 'up-graded' to a room on the street and next to one of the reception rooms. I asked to shift because of the noise from the reception room especially, but the staff complied immediately and with good grace. I asked for a non-smoking room, but both rooms I had had ashtrays - come on, Diplomat - you can do better than that!
Very central. Friendly.

Been here for and few day and itâs not to bad so far. The bedroom are rather large and the beds ok. As two meter tall and 110 kg need the best. The internet works very sporadic so need to cross the street and visit Starbucks to be able to work.
