Memorable for all the wrong reasons

After visiting 26 countries and staying in hundreds of hotels aspects of this rate as some of the worst I have experienced. We stayed here twice in a week, over 6 nights. A side trip interstate broke our stay up. First impressions were good. Modern exterior, good foyer and interesting decor. Check in staff were abrupt. Then we got to the room. Dated, run down the bathroom was filthy. Mould was all over the ceiling and high on the walls.

After a bad nights sleep due to poor noise insulation we went downstairs for breakfast. Having just sat down a shouting match that went for 10 minutes erupted from behind the reception desk between a manager and staff member. I couldn’t understand what was being said but I did consider calling the police as the intensifying anger was extremely volatile. I have never seen such unprofessional behaviour in my life. Guests sleeping upstairs would have not been able to sleep through this scene.

I would have canceled our second stay had it not been prepaid and our usual hotels had vacancies. When we got to our preordered premier room we found one queen size bed not the two single beds we ordered. Upon complaining this was not what was booked we were asked to use the room that night and sort out the mix up in the morning. Now I like my colleague, but not enough to share a bed with him. Upon refusing this request we were immediately taken to a premier room with two single beds. I was shocked. The room was available but they couldn’t be bothered doing the paperwork. Completely unacceptable.

This hotel has serious management issues. The breakfast staff and housekeeping staff were friendly, engaging and professional. Clearly though there are issues that need to be addressed about training, resources and quality control.

Obviously we will never return. A free stay would be declined. Our experience here reflects badly on Kolkata and indeed India. I love Kolkata. This was my sixth visit. The seventh though will be at a different hotel.

Value for money

It's a decent hotel with value for money stay, not a luxury but location wise pretty good. Better to stay in this hotel than pick one of the hotels near new market area if you are going to wonder around in that area and are concerned on budget.

A barrage of sounds in an otherwise OK hotel

First, this is a three-star hotel, not a four one. I came into this hotel thinking I found a gem amongst four stars given its price; I did not. It's not clear why this misinformation is out there, but at the moment of writing this is a three-star hotel, and it shows.
It does not show in the hospitality though. The staff is trying to provide you with good service and were friendly during my stay here.
Unfortunately, the guests are something you nor the staff have (a lot of) control over. Since it's a cheaper hotel you (can and will) have a lot of "mid-class" guests with small children.  Additionally, the sound-proofing is subpar so do not expect to go to bed before midnight. If it aren't children who are causing noise, it'll be the people on the street since this hotel is in the center of Kolkata. If that wasn't enough, the doors have locks with a card. This lock starts beeping if the door doesn't close properly. While this shouldn't be a problem, unfortunately, it is. None of the doors close correctly so you end up with neighbors that are reluctant to close their doors even if said door is beeping constantly. Thanks to the aforementioned horrible sound insolation you get just as many disruptors inside the hotel as outside which made this stay less pleasant at times.
After the place quiets down past midnight, you can sleep peacefully since the beds felt good. At least, during my stay. I was never sore after waking up nor did I wake up during the night.
The breakfast in the morning leaves much to be desired. A lot of improvements can be made here. Not only is the space for sitting very small, so is the "buffet". With the buffet, you can see the hotel is lacking. Besides a few non-Indian things, all the food is Indian cuisine, which I do not like as breakfast. The breakfast staff is also understaffed as all the tables stay filled with plates and dirty. Nothing gets removed while you are looking for a place. Besides the limitations of the area, there just isn't a lot of the food left when you have breakfast later (after 9 a.m.).
You get decent wifi though. I was on the second floor so I didn't notice bad low-quality signals although the connection did drop from time to time. This was not major since it only lasted for a few minutes.

In summary, the hotel is fine enough if you wish to stay a day or two. More than that will not do you any good. This is especially the case for western travelers, specifically, those that are used to a certain level of hygiene, comfort, and quietness. If you are someone like that, you must look elsewhere.

Great Location

Decent hotel with a very nice location. Perfect location for people who wants to shop in new Market Area and park street. The breakfast at the hotel is also decent amd the staffs are friendly. The price of room is however on a higher side but considering the location one shouldn’t mind paying.

Last week I have stayed at this hotel and my experience was excellent. room are very good decorated and maintained. staff's are very friendly and can speak English
the hotel's situated very near to "New Market" Kolkata area and surrounded by all necessary things.
