We were travelling from our home in the Loire valley to the UK and decided at the last minute to book a hotel in Calais, so as to shorten our journey both sides of the channel. We chose the Hotel Meurice. What a little gem we found! Although it had the appearance of a tired old hotel it was a very pleasant stay for us, with very friendly staff. It was clean and our room had tea-making facility, including biscuits, not always found in hotels in France. There was a very pleasant park and gardens just across the road and a good choice of restaurants within five minutes walk. The channel tunnel was just a short drive for us in the morning, All in all, a nice place to stay and break a long journey. Would definitely stay there again.

This is only the second time I have stayed here and it was even better than the first time.
The welcome and reception area is fabulous with a grand staircase (or lift) leading up to the rooms. Our double room had the biggest bed I have slept in. Very comfortable indeed. The hotel is spotless throughout.
Didnât have breakfast but it was great on previous visit.

Stayed for one night the room was very comfortable with soft pillows and comfy bed, shower excellent. Well located close to restaurants and a few minutes walk from centre. Did not have breakfast at 14euro each we thought a little overpriced. Room was not warm.

I have been going here for 20 years, and it has certainly deteriorated in the last few years since the new owners have installed their ideas on how it should be.
Gone are the days of the Diligence restaurant which was fantastic, especially the antics of the husband and wife owners Alain and Valerie. Gone are the jacuzzi couple rooms. Gone are the special wine or whiskey evenings with dinner. We now have a fair hotel in need of restoration, but still having the traditional feel of France. Its just not as good as it was.

Well as you know we are always looking for interesting places, well this one results from a really disappoint experience in a 5 star hotel in Germany. We decided to have a short break before Xmas and my wife booked the above hotel as a treat. But when all went wrong she asked me to book a hotel for the last few days of our trip.
So we end up at the Meurice
