Vacation

Noisy- the walls seems to be very thin because we could hear the rooms next to us. TV is very small. Not sure how they got 4 stars - very basic. Not impress with the check-in efficiency. Location is good though.
Too many people!

The staff are all terrific and it's very reasonably priced. It's a good location opposite the beach and about a 1km walk from the old town and castle. It has a nice bar with air conditioning and no smoking which makes a welcome retreat on a hot day. BUT it's huge! You're always surrounded by hundreds of people and all the hard surfaces make it very noisy. It's popular with family groups so there are lots of kids running around and babies crying in the 'restaurant'. Half board is included in the room rate so the buffets are very busy - you need to arrive within 30 mins of opening or you'll find yourself queuing to get a table - waiting for someone to vacate. The hotel rooms are pretty basic - textured rendered concrete walls, woodgrain laminate furniture, polyester curtains and bedspreads - our room was 1980's orange - and terrazzo tiled floors. They don't supply slippers (unlike every other 4â we've stayed in) and there are no rugs on the floor so walking around in bare feet is not pleasant - even if they are mopped daily, you still track in dirt on your own shoes. The bathroom supplies are meagre - no tissues, cheap shampoo and no conditioner, tiny soaps that weren't renewed in a 3 day stay, and the bathroom was inadequately ventilated so it fogged up after even a brief shower. That said, the beds are wide and long and comfortable. There are lots of pillows, although they were all the same thickness and a little too high for me, and all the same fill - crumbly foam sponge.
The sound proofing between rooms is inadequate, however, so you know exactly what they're doing next door because when they cough, or flush the toilet, or watch TV, or take a shower, you can hear it clearly - the pipes actually whistle! Non-smoking rooms are useless when all the balconies are adjoining, so when your neighbour smokes on their balcony, the smoke blows in through the balcony door. Either that or it comes through the aircon from another room! Whole floors need to be made non-smoking, and all rooms on the one circulatory system need to be similarly classified.
The breakfast buffet is comprehensive with lots of variety and reasonable quality produce, except for the coffee which is woeful. The dinner menus are also reasonable with the occasional excellent dish like the seafood bisque and the deep fried anchovies. Otherwise it's pretty standard buffet fare and you need to do a lot of walking back and forth to compose a meal. You pay extra for drinks and have to move over to the bar for coffee after dinner (it's better than the breakfast coffee!) The staff are very efficient in cleaning up your plates after each 'course', which is necessary to the process of churning diners through the restaurant to make room for the next lot.
This hotel is not really the place to go for a quiet getaway but then, I get the impression that none of the hotels along this strip would fit that bill. I'm also not sure it deserves its 4 star rating having stayed in better and quieter 3 star establishments, but it IS cheap considering all that's included. You pay 3â prices for 3â quality.
Very good hotel in perfect location

My husband and I stayed there for 4 days and really enjoyed it.
Staff at reception was friendly and helpful, shame for the amount of people queuing at the desk all the time...
We got an upgrade because our room was not ready and ended having a room with a view on the beach and the castle. The room itself was a bit old fashioned and not extremely clean but we spent most of our time outside.
We used the restaurant for breakfast and lunch only. The buffet offered a large selection of food but I would have preferred quality over quantity. It was extremely busy and noisy too.
The pool was nice, enough sunbeds to use.
The beach is literally across the road which is great. Parasols and sunbeds available but quite expensive so we ended up buying our own parasol for 10 euros and made great use of it!
Restaurants, shops, cafes available very close to the hotel and only a 10 minutes walk to the old city and castle.
We've enjoyed our stay very much despite the amount of people, would definitely go back.

The 4 star hotel Papa Luna has all the facilities. Big rooms, bathrooms and balconies. Bathrooms have also bidet. The offer from the restaurant (all inclusive system, without drinks) is variuos. The only minus is the sound insulation between - almost nonexistent (you can easy hear yours neighbour snoring). Beach is just across the street where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for 4⬠each. The pool is small but ok with permanent lifeguard. Every evening they have live music shows. Seems that is one from the fewest which have evening entertainment.
Very good with good price
