I used to go to this hotel like 10 years ago with my parents and sisters, we always had great memories. it was one of our favorites, especially for the food! The thematic meals were amazing, and they were always careful on serving some high quality basic options for those who didn´t like the night specials, seafoods for example.
So this month I went there as a couple. The hotel is still very good, it is very well maintaned. The service is great, from the transfer to the reception, room and pool.
However, we had a few problems: woke up early in the morning because of the noise from staff cleaning the rooms on the floor above, dragging the bed and mobile.We complained first time, then the next day same thing, complained again, then it was solved.
Other major issue was the food. We had so many expectations. From the 7 nights we stayed there, we only had the complete dinner buffet on the first two. The hot dishes were good, diverse options, nicely served. On the other hand, the salad and deserts were dull and repetitive. Nothing special, none of those nice options we usually expect on high level restaurants. They were clearly saving some there...
The next days, because of the low occupancy of the hotel, there was no buffet, but an a la carte menu, with few options ...some of them not good. We even had to return the whole dish twice. Moreover, they stopped serving the coffee and tea table. We had to ask for it at the bar, still it took some time until they could serve it without extra charge. So yeah, pretty disappointing, bacause you see, we were paying the same (not cheap) rate for every day. I understand the waste issue, but I think they should plan it better, try to compensate with different options at the salad and desert, or at least keep the high quality food, like shrimps and seafood. They were just repeating the same ingredients every day. The pool menu is not very diverse either, so at one moment we were just kinda tired of eating there. It´s an island, there are no other options. We were expecting it to be the highlight of the trip.
The hotel was preparing to receive a conference / event on the same week, so it seemed like they were all busy caring for that, and didn´t pay much attention for the few guests there.
But I still recommend it, if you can get a lower fare / rate than the concurrents. The acommodations and the pool / beach area are great. But not top notch like it used to be.

Me and my family have visited Comandatuba a few times, always at Transamerica, a marvelous hotel with absolute delicious food. Very family oriented ambiance, lots of kids playing around, this hotel is absolutely fit the whole family, from toddlers to grandmothers. You will love it!!!

There was nothing about this place that wasn't top shelf! The bungalow we stayed in was gorgeous, the bathroom spectacular! I enjoyed most of the food, there are some differences, for example with cheese, which I love, they don't pasteurize milk in Brazil so the flavor is different. This also applies to cured meats like salami, etc. they cure differently and I didn't care for the taste. The grounds were beautiful and you take a small ferry to the island, with the greeters, music, warm towel and drinks waiting, it was like going to Fantasy Island! The biggest problem we had was the lack of anyone able to speak English. I could not order room service because there was no one with whom I could speak. We had just been in Sao Paulo for a wedding and most guests were flying to other areas for a vacation afterward. When we learned of a bombing at the airport in Sao Paulo we tried to ask the concierge, but even he spoke very little English. It seemed to be geared more toward high end Brazilian clients, which is fine, but it would have been helpful to know before hand. The pool and bar staff were very interested in learning English and we did a lot of communicating via signs and symbols.

I was at the hotel for business, but we had the chance to stay one more day there to relax. Everything works, environment is great. The room is very nice and there are a lot of activities available. (Wake board, quadricycles, tennis, surf, etc).
The restaurant has a lot of options and the food is very good.
If you have kids, there are monitors to take care and play with them.
Go there and enjoy!

We had a fabulous time several years ago(this website only let me show March 2016 but it was closer to 2001)...stayed in one of the casitas facing the water with a hammock you could relax in under the palm trees. Lets of fun activities during the day. They flew in entertainment from Rio....
