I've not stayed here (why would I? I only live 8 miles away) but have had lunch there few times, especially after walking The Trool.
The menu is limited (as it would be in such a small place) but the food has always been fresh, hot and delicious. The Caledonian beer is worth driving up from London for!
A very nice place to stay

Spent two nights in the cottage this week and had a thoroughly enjoyable time despite some rather grim weather. We hoped to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately, despite a really clear night they simply weren't playing. All the team were very friendly and the beer and food were excellent and reasonably priced. I'd not hesitate to revisit.
Brilliant!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! We only had one night, but what a great location. Right on the edge of Galloway Forest Park (currently the only Dark Skies Park in the UK as far as I know) surrounded by stunning scenery. The staff (Karen in particular) are so friendly and inviting, felt very homely. The food in the restaurant is incredible and mostly all local produce, theyâve just won restaurant of the year in Galloway and Dumfries and itâs not surprising! Room was spotless and had everything we needed in it. Breakfast we good and thereâs Off-road parking available. Already planning our next visit!

The cottage was clean and comfortable. The only slight problems were that the TV was not tuned in, staff did their best to rectify the situation, managing finally to get us BBC1, and the wonky toilet seat which we did advise about, but managed on! Wonder why the cleaner didn't find it was loose before we arrived?
The only real hiccup was the steak served at our Anniversary dinner which my husband requested be very, very well done, it was pink in the centre. Dog at next table enjoyed it! We did tell staff about the steak, but the chef did not come out to apologise, or offer to cook another for him. We were offered a free drink but by that time did not want anymore alchohol. It spoiled an otherwise good impression that we had of the hotel before that.
5* for service and friendliness for Debbie. You have a diamond there, she is the epitomy of good customer service. Give her a pay rise and never let her go!
Friendly, with great food

We stayed in the cottage which was perfect for us and the dogs, who were safe in the enclosed yard area. Suppers were delicious, breakfast was good, and staff were really helpful and friendly. We plan to return!
