Small, easy access to subway but a lil inconvenient within.

Stayed 3 nights in Oct 2014. The weather was semi-cold, ranging from 11 degrees to 17 degrees.
Hyosundang was a great way to experience the traditional korean residential setting. However, the rooms were really tiny. I am about 1.61m and the length of the room is about that while the ceiling (1 of the rooms we stayed in for the first night) was about a head higher than me. So i can imagine how difficult it can be if you are really tall. The room we slept in (2 person) + 2 luggage was a little squeeze. Could not really open our luggages.
The toilets are located outside the room, sorta outdoor. So it was a torture to go to the toilet in the cold.
Nonetheless, the place was really clean and warm. No issues with the house rules although the elderly staying there would occasionally stare at you from their rooms which can be intimidating.
Breakfast was always bibimbap. Would be awesome if there is a variety.
Extremely convenient to the Anguk station. Also noted that there was an airport limousine bus just 3 mins walk down the street after coming out from the station. It was also really near Samcheong-dong and Bukchon Village; awesome to explore cafes if you enjoy cafe hop!
Good location but a lot of "house rules"

I've traveled to many places but this is my first review here because I feel the need to warn people. Just came back from a 2 nights stay in this guesthouse. Location is very strategic with many attractions nearby and Anguk station is just 5 mins walks away. Price wise is not cheap for such small room with no attached bathroom. The owner has a few guesthouses and we stayed at #25. There are 4 rooms altogether. We took the 2 + 3 pax room. There are 2 shared bathrooms so you may have to wait quite a bit if there are many guests at that time. Air-cond in the room and hairdryer is available too which is good for the ladies. Simple breakfast is included. Owner can't speak good English and stays somewhere else.
What me and other guests are unhappy about this place is that the owner is quite rude. First night, other guests told us that the owner came barging in the middle of the night and scolded them for using the washing machine. They weren't told they can't use it. The next morning, owner again scolded some of my friends and other guests for not eating breakfast in a group. 1 person at a time is not allowed. Bear in mind, breakfast is from 8-9pm and the dining hall can only fit 6 person at a time but there were more than 10 people in the guesthouse. How is it possible that everyone have the chance to eat in 1 hour's time. We don't pay to stay in a military style house. He stopped my other friend from going into the dining hall though there are still space. He was pretty rude and scolded the helper who cooked the breakfast too. The helper is a senior so I think it's inappropriate that he scolded her every morning throughout our stay. Breakfast should be set to at least 2 hours since there are so many guests in the house.
There are CCTV in the open area and kitchen. If you do something they dislike, expect him to visit the house and start scolding you. An advise to the owner, if he has so many house rules, he should write it down and stick it somewhere or at least tell us everything that we need to know. The other 2 groups are all ladies and kids. They were quite afraid of staying there after the first incident. If you think your group is noisy, don't stay here. You need quite a plenty of discipline and patients to stay here with all the rules. Owner should respect the guests and talk nicely to them instead of shouting. I will not recommend anyone to stay here for sure. Always respect the guest unless they did something very very wrong or disrespectful which in this case non of us did.
Cozy Guesthouse

Last summer, I went to Korea with my family. I stayed at âHyosundang Hanok Guesthouseâ which was a Korean traditional style. This guesthouse was a family business. The owner changed his house to a guesthouse. He ran this business with his mother and wife. From Incheon airport, you can come to this guesthouse by Limousine bus number 6011. It took about 50-60 minutes.
To begin with the style of this guesthouse, it was a real Korean traditional house which was very beautiful and cozy. All things around me like in the Korean series. You can take the pictures everywhere in the guesthouse. For the staff, the owner and his family were friendly and kind. The owner can speak English with me but not fluently. Sometime, he had to use body language instead. Although his mother and wife cannot speak English, I saw that they tried to help me in other ways. For the facilities, this guesthouse had free Wi-Fi and free drinking water. You can get them all the time you want. However, there were few shared bathrooms. I had to wait other customers used them or caught them before others came. Next, the rooms were very neat and clean; however, they were small and no cleaning room service. I had to use the vacuum cleaner to clean the room by myself. And because this is a real house, there are some rules you have to follow. For example, you have to open and close the wooden door slowly because it can make loud noise. For these require, the owner will tell you all rules after you check in. Actually, the great thing of this guesthouse is near the subway and tourist attractions. For the subway, you just walk around 2 minutes from the guesthouse and you will find the Auguk subway station. For tourist attractions, there are many royal palaces and traditional villages near the guesthouse. You can walk to visit them all.
My most impression of this guesthouse is the owner and his family. They are hard-working and friendly people. They helped my sister to get the direction from Insadong to Anguk. When we needed anything, they helped us with their smile face. In the last day, they gave my family and me some gifts before we went back to Thailand. To conclude, I think this guesthouse is appropriate for people who like a traditional style and cozy air. Although there are some conditions, it is good to try!
