30 minutes of this was enough

After travelling from England to stay in this hotel with all the lovely photos online I thought Iâd had a bargain, until we got here.
You could tell by driving into the hotel parking and looking up at this prison like hotel that we were in for a right treat...
We checked in speaking to a chap that could hardly speak a word of English, fair enough we are in France but even so,
We then go to our room, to find mold growing in the shower, dirt in the bedsheets and even to sit down on the beds made my skin crawl... 30 minutes later, we were getting back into the car and driving across the road to the IBIS hotel.
It was disgusting, even if the hotel was cheap, it should have been maintained better than that.
If I could rate this with a 0 I would.
One night stand

We used this hotel as a pit stop to break up our journey. Arrived late in the evening from England and stayed overnight before heading south.
It is cheap. Donât expect much! The room was clean we slept well. It appears the walls are quite thin because we heard our neighbour on the phone to her daughter early in the morning. I just hope we werenât too loud the night before!
We had breakfast there for 6⬠and although there was very little on offer it was enough to keep up going till lunch.
I would probably opt for a slightly better hotel next time but this one would be ok too.
Hotel Balladins? More like Hotel Burn it down!

My Mother, Brother and I booked a last minute holiday to France and booked 2 rooms at Hotel Balladins for 2 nights. On arrival, the exterior and the 6 foot high prison railings was very off putting, the outside of the building was very drab and in need of a lick of paint. On entry, the foyer smelt of cabbage, rather disgusting and instantly questioned both the cleanliness and overall rating of the hotel (wish we checked trip advisor earlier!). We were given our keys to both rooms, and we headed upstairs; the smell continued, not very pleasant at all! When walking into our room, it looked visibly clean, but then again on further inspection, checking the beds and bathroom, it wasnât too amazing. The room itself was small, basic and minimal, our room which had two single beds in, replicated one of a camp bed and for an 11 year old, not suited for a fully grown adult. The bathroom was rather outdated, the shower had a strange design which looked dirty, definitely needs a renovation! After sitting in the room for roughly an hour, we searched for other hotels in the area, as Hotel Balladins was totally unacceptable, and a hotel IBIS was across the road. After driving roughly 5 metres to the next hotel, they had one room spare meaning my brother had to stay at Balladins. He left to go back to the hotel at roughly 10pm and it was rather an unpleasant experience for him. There were work men sat outside, drinking and being rather intimidating, not a great image for the hotel. He said he had an okay night but left as early as he could and joined us back in the IBIS. Luckily the second night, the IBIS had an extra bed free, so we all had a better night sleep! Overall, Hotel Balladins is very basic and would advise fellow travellers to avoid at all costs. We have asked for a refund for the second night however, has not yet been made and has been over 2 months. One piece of advice would be to book IBIS straight away if you donât want the unpleasant smell, minimal room and the overall hassle of having an awful hotel experience.
First night of a mini tour

First impression of this hotel was not good and neither was second. The exterior is forbidding and on walking into reception the senses were assailed by the smell if cooking cabbage.
HOWEVER, the staff were very welcoming and the room was fine for purpose once the bedspread had been rolled up and chucked in an obscure corner.
The bathroom was clean tho' first impression was the something drastic had been spilt on the ware. It turned out to be part of the pattern!
Bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast, at â¬6, did the job- cereals, breads, fruit, jams etc. The hotel as a hole (!) was ok but I certainly wouldn't like to spend any more time there. It was cheap and let's face it, you get what you pay for. I'd use it again as an overnight stopover but I'd try Ibis Budget, next door, first.
First night of cycling tour

Very cheap but you get what you pay for. Asked chap on reception if we could keep our bikes in the room. Not possible but he offered to lock them in the meeting room. Bedroom was very small and could do with an update. Dirty looking marks in shower but on second inspection I think they might have been a strange decorative feature. Shower itself was great. Bed pretty hard but not uncomfortably so. Buffet style breakfast. Small choice but at â¬6 it did the job.
