I've been cyclotouring for a week and camping under tent. I had to spend a night at a hotel to use internet for work.
I called hotel de verdun at 6pm to find out if they had a computer available and the manager assured me there was one I could use. I therefore booked a room and showed up an hour later.
When I arrived the manager said I couldn't use the computer anymore as he was closing the reception. He said he would lend it only if I left a deposit of 1500 euros cash.
Obviously, I didn't have that kind of money on me so I proposed he blocks that amount on my credit card which he refused. I explained that we had booked the hotel specifically because he said I could use the computer but he didn't want to help.
On the other hand, as most other reviews already mention, the place absolutely stinks due to all the cats walking around.
Rooms are ok, though not very clean and very basic.

Everything about the hotel was fine except that the room stank of cigarette smoke. A shame given the efforts by the management to dissuade people from smoking in the rooms. Otherwise good room and shower and somewhere secure for my bike overnight. Close to lots of restaurants.

Booked for two nights in November but left after one. Got such a shock to see the place over run with cats.. If we'd been warned about this on booking.com we would have booked elsewhere.
The place was dingy and had a horrible smell (made worse with the incense to try and hide it).. Dirty, dangerous carpet on the stairs. We got to the room and were so let down. We made the decision, go to bed early, get up early and get out of there!!

Stayed a night here at this simple hotel in Nevers. It's close to the Gare SNCF de Nevers (about 20 minutes walk) and the Espace Bernadette (about a 10-15 minute's walk away). This hotel is great for those who don't mind simple accommodation. Do note that if you're arriving here in Nevers in the afternoon, the reception is only open from 5pm to 9pm. If you intend to return to your room after 9pm, there's a code you'll have to enter in order to access the front door. The couple who run this place are incredibly friendly â helps to give this place a very homely feel.

I must ask Tripadvisor to put on a 'button' that allows reviewers to specify the parking situation. Yes this was a rather quaint old style hotel (creaky everything) next to a noisy road junction (get a room round the back) but above all, whilst it was cheap and very friendly (the owner and I had some banter over my French and his English) it was difficult to park close by.
Nevers is a beautiful old town with lovely walks around the centre, the river and the cathedral BUT the room was noisy and the whole place smelled of fried fish on the day I stayed. It did however have the hottest shower I have experienced in France!!!
Good for a stopover but be aware if you are coming by car because you may have to park ...... 'elsewhere'
