We came for a 3 night break. The hotel was superb in every aspect.1. Position; very close to Haytor and fabulous walks (in theory but sadly the weather was appalling).2. Hotel very comfortable;we chose superior room.3 Staff incredibly friendly and helpful without being intrusive.4 The best spa we have visited, large pool, sauna, steam room Jacuzi. Excellent gym. We had a back massage, and facial, superb. 5. Food;excellent. The Tiger Blue (pub/restaurant) was open and the choice was great and beautifullly presented. The main restaurant is open Fridays and Saturdays but 7 days per week after mid Feb

The hotel must be doing something right as this was our third Christmas spent at the Ilsington. The moment you arrive you are greeted as friends and for those of us who have returned again and again, we are friends and look forward to seeing familiar faces amongst guests and staff. This year we booked a dog room and took our eight month old puppy along, a bit worried as he'd never stayed in a hotel before but after the initial excitement he soon settled down and was made to feel welcome, I lost count of the doggy treats which headed his way from the staff! We opted for the four day package so all meals were included, drinks were extra and its pleasing to note the Ilsington does support local producers for food and beverages. What can I say about Chef apart from he is a master in the kitchen, the food is absolutely first class in taste, texture and presentation I could not nor wish to find fault with anything. I am vegetarian so a couple of my meals were adapted slightly, given notice the kitchen is very happy to accommodate dietary requests. If you love good food then I cannot recommend dinner at the Ilsington highly enough. Also available, the hotel has a lovely pool complex with gym, sauna, steam room , spa pool and swimming pool and for an extra charge, spa treatments in the very relaxing spa rooms. For the less energetic there are three very comfortable lounges to relax in with beautiful views across the Devon countryside. I love arriving at this hotel and very sad to depart and yes, we are already booked in for next year!
Perfect!!!!

My wife thoughtfully booked the 2 days between Christmas and New Year at this hotel this year and from the moment we arrived to the sad moment we had to leave it was just the most perfect experience. The complimentary cream tea on arrival was just amazing in the cosy sitting room near a real log fire. My wife who is coeliac was well looked after during the stay with homemade gluten free scones and later on excellent gluten free breads, nothing was too much trouble. The staff on attendence throughout the 2 days just provide the most honest and caring customer service, lacking in most hotels we have stayed in before. There's a real care and attention to looking after you but without bothering or hassling you. I loved the fact that many of the staff would make an effort to ask you how your day had been in a proactive and caring way that meant any problems or issues could be highlighted and dealt with quickly. We met other families and individuals staying at the hotel who came back on a regular basis. One person said this was their 9th Christmas at the hotel and another large family had been coming to the hotel for nearly 50 years. The food was high quality and well served without it feeling rushed. On the 2 nights we were staying there we had a wonderful pianist Athenia playing music on a beautiful baby grand piano over dinner, It fitted perfectly. it also reflected the care and attention of this hotel, as we had asked if the pianist could play City of Stars (from LaLa Land) as a personal request, the pianist apologised sincerely. However, the next evening we entered the dining room we had barely sat down when the opening notes of the tune started and we found out later that she had taken the time to find the score and practise it the following day, it made our Christmas. The new Spa complex is lovely and never got over crowded like many spas do. We had the most amazing 2 days there and felt completely relaxed and chilled out when we left. We didnt travel far to the hotel as we only live less than 4 miles away from it, but it didn't matter, we could have been anywhere in the country, it was an amazing experience. The only word we felt truly reflected our experience of the staff, food, etc, was that it was perfect in every way. We will definitely be going back and very keen to use the Spa facilities on a more regular basis. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel based on our own experience.

We were here for a biannual college reunion so we're able to have exclusive use of the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff go that extra mile and you feel as if you are in a family home. The food was excellent from breakfasts, the buffet evening meal and the food they were happy to plate up when some of the guests arrived late. The formal meal on the Saturday evening was fantastic, excellent food and the ability to serve everyone table by table but very quickly and unobtrusively so we were all eating hot food beautifully presented at the same time and it tasted good too!! They put up with our attempt at a group photo some of us on chairs rather hilarious when most were around 70!!
If it wasn't traditional for this reunion to move around the country I'm sure we would be back.
Wonderful romantic short break for two in beautiful location

Excellent experience at this lovely hotel. Spa is just so tranquil, and the food is very good (breakfast was superb). Rooms are well designed and the location is really quite beautiful. We are so pleased we chose to stay there.
Be sure to try the Blue Tiger restaurant as the food is really very good, but the wine is a tad expensive.
