Basic rooms with clean toilets

I stayed a total of 6 nights in Jacobs Inn, with 4 nights in a 6-beds room and remaining 2 nights in a 4-beds room. Having stayed in hostels in other places (including Japan), I would say that this hostel has a decent standard of cleanliness, with the bathrooms (ensuite) cleaned on a daily basis.
Peculiarly, the 6-beds room has a reading light and privacy curtain for each bunk bed and these were not available in the 4-beds room. Nevertheless, this hostel has scored high in the areas of price-worthiness given its good location, cleanliness and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Just watch out for some of the staff

First of all; I have visited many hostels and this one is in my top 5.
Just sit on the terrace on the 4th floor and wait for 5 minutes and you have some new friends. At the end of the evening i've made 20 new friends from 14 different countries.
Single rooms are OK, its not 5 stars but it its not as bad as commented. So I think they made progress. Everything was clean.
Dont expect to much about the breakfast. What do you expect for this price?
About the staff; big shout out to the guys with the beards(and nailpolish). They are amazing and laidback and give good advice which contributed to this amazing weekend.
Some other Eastern europe staff weren't that great. After 11 PM you have to identify yourself with some piece of paper and with your digitalcard. But if you go out for 2 minutes for a smoke, you have to identify yourself. No problem, but... I had a little chat with the guys. Came back and still have to identify, like they see you for the first time. Sometimes they ask to identify yourself even when you're already inside. So in 15 minutes I had to identify 3 times. And it's not like they ask it friendly.
After the 4th time in 1 hour, I didn't feel like i want to show that piece of paper. Just walked trough silently and ignoring him and get in the elevator. Went to my single room. Made me ready for the night, brushing my teeth and after 2 minutes the guy is knocking on my door and said that somebody made a complaint about noise. Which was strange because I don't shout when I brush my teeth. In 2 minutes, you cant to down, file a complaint, then come up and knock at our door. The guy only wants to show his authority. Told him to get lost, closed the door and I enjoyed the silence.
Long story short: amazing hostel, would come back. Just this incident was putting a stamp on everything. Were couple of others with the same complaint, but I was picked to write the review.
Keep on going bearded crew!

The price was right and the location was good. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were actually exceptionally so. Had a great night's sleep, and the staff was really friendly and the man working the front desk actually helped us plan our whole day out.
Convenience on a budget.

Stayed here for three nights, Stephens Day on. Really good experience. Got a good deal (13 Euro a night) because of time of year. This hostel is centrally located. Bus station next door and the high street is one block away. It is safe here with staff doing regular checks and monitoring CCTV constantly. The communal spaces are very good, TV Room/Games Room/Lounge and well-equipped kitchen free to use up until 11pm. Large dinning seating area also. The place is clean and modern. The negatives for me were the breakfast, just bread and cornflakes. I like to see maybe Weetabix or porridge at least. Maybe some ham or cheese, even a little fruit or yogurt. Any one of these would be an improvement. The large dorm I stayed in to was noisy. Not just the guests who showed no concern for others in the room. Banging lockers and talking loudly while getting ready to leave about 5 am. But also outside the room with doors banging and constant commotion from very early on. Overall for the price I was happy. And the night staff were especially professional and friendly.
âPossibly spend a little bit more for a smaller dorm or private room. I found the twelve bed to be noise and stuffy even in the winter.â
Almost a hotel

The size of Jacobs Inn is reminiscent of a hotel. 4 levels of rooms with the ground floor dedicated to a huge kitchen, TV area and lounge. They have every amenity you would expect of a hostel and more. Charging ports and a reading light are conveniently located on the head board of each bed. Breakfast each morning is simple but sufficient. Staff are knowledgeable and happy to help. Nothing more to ask from a hostel.
